.Chapter 3

* BUCKY'S POV *

I had decided that I wanted to head down to The Stork Club. I met my good old pal, Steve there. Ever since I've met the poor skinny guy, we've been best friends since. Steve's always getting into trouble with bullied, and I would always be the one to help me but I didn't mind at all. That was many years ago, and now we're both living in a apartment. That apartment was originally my parents, but they wanted to move to California. Me on the other hand, wanted to keep staying in New York, so I inherited their apartment.

Tonight I wanted to get down to The Stork Club, since Steve wanted to watch a movie by himself. He's always like that, he just needs some time to himself is all. I walked in and sat down at the bar. I then heard cries and loud noises coming from the back. I didn't know what it was, but I'm pretty sure that the cries were from a woman. Maybe someone was hurting her. I didn't think twice before barging into the back door.

I saw a woman laying down on the ground, covered with bruises and blood gushing out of her arms and legs. I then looked up to see a man holding a stick. He must have been hitting her. What sick man.

I hated bullies, since they've always took advantage of other weaker people. Take Steve for instance.

I slowly walked closer and closer to the man. He seemed pretty scared of me. I couldn't stand him anymore, so I had to speak up

"You know hitting women shows that you've got no self respect" I spat at him.

I could see that his blood was boiling at my remark and he answered "Why you little....."

He then raised the stick in his hand, wanting to hit me with it. I dodged his attacks swiftly. He was no match for my trained skills. I decided that he had his chance already, so I punched him in the torso 5 times. He landed on the ground oozing in pain. I smirked at his reaction.

I then remembered the woman. I quickly held onto her wrist and dragged her out of the bar. We ran a few blocks ahead, and she suddenly stopped. She wriggled her way out of my grip and asked me who I was. I shook her hand an introduced myself like a gentleman would.

She soon trusted that I wasn't any bad man, so I decided to take her home to wash her up. We took a cab to my place and we reached in no time at all. I tipped the cab driver and showed her the way in.

* KATE'S POV *

I trusted the man that saved me. His name was James Barnes, but he insisted that I call me Bucky instead. So I just went with it.

He took me to his apartment so that I could wash up. I hesitated at his offer at first, but then decided that I could trust him.

We arrived at his apartment shortly. We entered into his cozy home and he gestured me to take

a seat. I took a seat on the couch and looked around his place. It was cozy and comfy. It resembled home when I was younger.

My thoughts were disturbed when I heard the door knob jiggle. Another man came in the door and I starred at him. He was skinny and short. He was almost the same height as me, but I think I was just a little bit taller than him. He had very distinguished features, dirty blond hair, and the most charming light blue eyes I've ever seen. He was handsome, but he was short and skinny. But who am I to judge right?

He soon noticed my appearance and starred at me too. He then turned his head to where Bucky had walked off to just now and said "Bucks... who is this?"

I starred into his charming light blue eyes blankly. I seem to be in some kinda trance.. I could stop looking into them. They were so Hypnotic...

Bucky then came out with a first aid kid at hand. He turned to face me first then turned to look at the skinny man.

"Oh hey Steve. Back so soon? How was the movie?"

"It was fine, Bucks. But you didn't answer my question. Who's this?"

"Oh, this is...." He then turned to me and continued "sorry, what's your name? I didn't get to ask you that either"

I broke out of my trance, and turned to both men. "I'm Kate. Kate Winters"

Bucky then turned to Steve and said "She's Kate"

"I see" Steve answered. He then saw my cuts and bruises.

"What's happened to you?" He asked me in a concern tone

"I was hit"

"Who was that guy by the bar anyways?" Bucky chipped in.

I sighed. I didn't know if I could trust them. Maybe I could, since one of them saved my life.

I decided that I could trust them. I told them my whole sob story. It was a long on, so while I was telling it, Bucky helped clean my wounds. Steve on the other hand listened intently. He looked so gorgeous when he's serious.

After I was done, Steve tried to comfort me by saying "well, you're not the only one. My dad was an alcoholic -and he died because of that. My mother on the other hand, was good woman. She was ill and passed away soon after" he stopped for a moment and starred at the ground solemnly. Bucky then stopped attending my wounds and starred at the ground too.

Steve then continued saying "I was a wimp. I'd always get beat up in alleys. Lucky for me, I met Bucky here by The Stork Club on night. Ever since then, we became best friends"

That was so sad, yet so sweet at the end. Bucky then continued for him "yea, and now I'm his badass body guard" they both chuckled.

I then realized that I still had dirt covered on my face, so I took the cloth from Bucky's hands and wiped my face. I wiped out all the dirt from my now pale skin.

* STEVE'S POV *

The first time I laid my eyes on Kate, I thought she was a slut or something. Her clothes were very revealing. Then I came closer to her, and saw that she had cuts and bruises all over. Maybe she wasn't what I thought she was.

We then started talking about ourselves for no reason. She told me her tragic sob story and I told her mine in exchange. I don't usually do this, but she seemed like a trustable young lady.

She had dirt smudged all over her face, so I couldn't really see how she looked like. But I could see that she had the most amazing light hazel eyes. I actually got stuck starring at them for a long time. Luckily she didn't noticed it.

She then took the cloth from Bucky's hands and started to wipe her face with it. She wiped off all the dirt, revealing the most beautiful face I've ever seen.

I was stunned for a moment and so was Bucky. She was the pretties woman we ever laid eyes on. My eyes and mouth were raised to an 'O'. She was gorgeous, she was prefect. Something I knew that I could never get.
