Song: Hey There Delilah
By: Plain White T's
I wake up on Friday to the smell of food, which is rare and automatically means that Aunt Grace is in the kitchen. I let a smile creep onto my face to check my phone for any messages, only to be disappointed when I find none. I let out a sigh at that before shrugging. Chloe knows I'm not too big on my birthday and Blake probably forgot. At least I get a cooked breakfast. I think as I push myself to my feet to get ready.
I throw on some jeans and a T-shirt after showering before brushing out my hair and putting it in a bun. I grab my jacket and backpack before heading downstairs and to the kitchen. I walk in to be hit with the smell of pancakes and sausage. I lick my lips hungrily as my stomach growls. "This is great Aunt Grace!" I tell her as I stare at the food, the urge to scarf it all down in one bite almost overwhelming me.
She turns, smiling as she pulls me into a hug. "Happy birthday sweetie!" She tells me before letting me go to slide a plate of delicious smelling food in front of me. I sit down immediately to eat as Aunt Grace fixes herself her plate before sitting down across from me.
"So was I the first one to wish you a happy birthday?" She asks hopefully and I let out a soft laugh before nodding as I continue to eat. She lets out a little victory whoop before starting in on her own pancake.
It only takes me a minute or so to completely finish my food and by the time I'm done I feel a buzz from my phone. I glance down to see a text from Chloe and immediately check it.
Chloe: Hey, I'm sorry. I can't take you to school today, there was a glitch in the school's website and I had to get there early. I'll see you later.
Me: Okay, that's fine.
I sigh at my own response before standing and taking my dishes to the sink. "I've got to be heading to school now. Chris will probably be out here five minutes until he's late, so I'd have his breakfast ready. Taylor's usually late, so...... yeah she won't care. I'll see you later Aunt Grace." I tell her as I throw on my jacket before picking up my backpack as well.
Aunt Grace waves goodbye as I walk out of the kitchen and out of the house. I start my walk to school with one, sad thought. Today's going to be a long day.
-------------------------------------------------------
I go through my classes without seeing Blake or Chloe all day. I text Blake to see what's wrong and only get the reply that he's sick. I text back that I hope he feels better before asking what's up with Chloe. She texts back that she got an excuse from all of her teachers to work on the website all day.
All of this happens near the beginning of the day and now school's over. I make my way to the exit when Emma comes out of nowhere and stops me. "Hey Marcy! Do you mind helping me with my math, I just can't seem to get this one paper done and it's killing me." She says quickly and I blink at her for a few moments.
"Why don't you just come over tomorrow and I can help you with it. I kind of want to go home and rest tonight." I tell her with an apologetic smile as I move to walk around her. Emma's arm immediately shoots out to stop me as she looks at me with begging eyes.
"I can't work on it tomorrow, I'm going out of town with my family. Please, I really need help." She begs and I let out a sigh before nodding and turning around to walk to the library. She smiles cheerfully as she skips along beside me. "I don't know how much help I'll be, you're better at math than I am." I warn her with a small sigh as I run a hand through my hair.
