Rhoda P.O.V
The rest of herbology was boring. We finally finished and I couldn't wait for flying. Unfortunately, living in spinners end doesn't give you the ability to go flying around on a broomstick. I don't care anyway, I have the chance now and I just couldn't wait. Me, Sarah and the others made our way to flying with Madam Hooch I think it was.
"Well, I didn't really like herbology. A bit depressing, I hope all of our lessons aren't like that." Kyle huffed. He was walking next to me and Tom was on the other side.
"Don't worry Kyle. We have flying now." I corrected him. He slung his arm over my shoulder.
"Your right Rhoda. Something to look forward to." I smiled and didn't look at him. I was blushing. Damn boys, always bringing my soft side out. We walked silently for a bit then. It wasn't awkward though. It was nice. Madam Hooch was standing with the Griffindors next to a load of brooms. Kyle dropped his arm and we all happily placed ourselves next to a broom.
"Good morning Griffindors and Hufflepuffs. We shall be learning flying today. To get started just hover your hand over the broom and shout up. You may begin." People all around were shouting up. I decided to join in.
"UP!" I shouted. The broom spring off the floor and landed in my hand. That was wicked. "Cool." I whispered.
"Well done Miss.Snape! First to master it. Ah! And Mr.Casston, oh well done." I looked up and Kyle smiled at me. I retuned the favour and hid my blush.
Once everyone had finally got their brooms we were told to mount. I climbed on and we all pushed up. I hovered slightly and returned to ground, along with the rest of the class. Madam Hooch took an interest with me and had me do a demonstration.
"Well Miss.Snape. I would like you to kick off and hover, them tilt upwards slightly to the height of about two me's ontop of eachother." I did as she said and it felt quite far up, even though it was only like ten feet if that. "Well done! Now lean forward slightly and fly to the end of this grass and back." I completed the action and felt free as the wind pushed my hair back. I turned around and headed back. Hooch asked me to return to the ground and I did. Quite easily as well. People clapped and others glared at me with jealousy probably.
Eventually everyone had done what I did and it was time for the lesson to finish. I had loved every minute of it. It made me feel so alive. I knew it would cheer Severina up because she is a beater for Slytherin. Unfortunately, I'm guessing she has to hurt Fred but without a doubt I believe he does the same on the pitch.
I finally get to be in a class with my dad. It's going to be great. We placed the brooms back in the shed and me, Kyle and Tom were all messing about on the way to potions. Funnily enough it was only me, Kyle and Tom together in potions. The girl named Joanna followed behind.
"So what did you think about flying Rho?" Wow, Kyle had a nickname for me already.
"Well Ky, I thought it was amazing, exhilarating and down right fantastic." Him and Tom looked at my bewildered face and laughed.
"I'm glad you liked it Rhoda. Personally I didn't know what a broom properly was until I got here. I thought it was the best as well. I'm muggle-born you see." Tom explained.
"Don't worry. I'm only half, well my mum and dad were both wizard and witch but my dad is a half-blood so that makes me half I think. What about you Kyle?" I explained/asked.
"Oh me?" He put his arm around my shoulder again. "I'm pure but I hate it. My parents are maniacs, all Slytherins, I begged the hat not to be in Slytherin so here I am. My parents don't know yet." He seemed to look down for a minute but then held his head high and smiled " we better get to potions." I happily let him lead me with his arm on my shoulder. We soon got cold but I was used to it. My dad loves the cold, it's weird. Then came the potions classroom. It think we were late actually. The door was shut and I could hear mumbling. Also, Joanna had rushed past us ages ago. Oh well, what's life without drama. He's my dad I'll be ok.
Tom went in first. He slightly pushed the door and peered in. I heard a bored voice acknowledge him.
"Well well well. Not nice to be late on your first day is it? Get in and shut the door now." That's ma dad! Tom mumbled a sorry and then me and Kyle followed in.
"Ah! I see you tw-" he then glared at me and Kyle like we had two heads. Making that four heads. "Get your arm off my daughter!" Dad hissed. Kyle immediately dropped his arm. "Detention tonight! Both sit down and I can carry on with my lesson!" I took a seat near the front and Kyle went to follow. "Mr-" he didn't know Kyle's name.
"Castton sir, Kyle Castton." Kyle spoke softly with a hint of anxiousness in his voice. He is so sweet.
"Mr.Castton, get to the back and sit down." I gave him a sympathetic
Look and a glare at my dad. I didn't know he could be so mean. He looked at me wide eyed and then returned to his cold glare. I just took my seat and listened to my dad ramble on about glory and death. We set off with a boil cure potion which I had done so many times. I finished half an hour before everyone else.
"A word please Miss.Snape." My dad didn't even look up from his paper. I walked over to him and stood awkwardly at the side of his desk.
"Yes daddy?" His head snapped up and his eyes looked cold and hard. "S-sorry." I whispered. I looked down at my now interesting shoes.
"Why did that boy have his arm around you?" He spat at me.
"H-he's my friend. It's a f-friendly thing to do." I muttered. He put a finger under my chin and pushed my face up.
"Look at me when I am speaking to you." I nodded and he removed his hand. "I do not want him handling you again. Friendly or not. You are my little girl and you are eleven years old." He whispered.
"Ok. Sorry, I didn't think it meant that much. Kyle is a nice guy."
"He seems a bit clingy and over active to me." Dad stated. Why was he being like this?
"No he's not. He is just being nice and polite and that's all he is." I said slightly louder.
"Detention! Do not answer me back. Go back to your desk." I looked into his cold eyes and there was nothing there. Had it really bothered him that much? Tears brimmed in my eyes and my bottom lip quivered.
"I'm s-sorry s-sir." I whispered and then sat back down. I didn't want to look at my dad now. That was just plain mean.
Finally the time came.
"Enough. I'll come and check your potions. Pack up your things and clean up." He droned. He walked slowly around all the desks. He seemed to pick faults with Tom's and Kyle's more for some reason. When he got to mine he just made a noise and walked on. "Ok you may leave. Mr.Castton and Miss.Snape stay behind." Yay just what I wanted. I still had tears in my eyes. My dad had never been like this with me. I was always good for that reason. Severina was the bad one. Always getting into trouble. I knew how my dad could shout and I didn't like it.
"Come to my desk." He ordered. I didn't move, I'm going to make a stand. Kyle rushed over there like a little puppy. He was so cute. "My desk Rhoda."
"No." I was slightly scared but weirdly confident.
"What?"
"I said no Sir." His features showed anger and a bit hurt? Maybe.
"Get over to my desk now Rhoda." This was his scary voice that he used when Severina had been naughty. It wasn't any louder than his normal voice but it was more threatening.
"I don't want to. I haven't done anything wrong and neither did Kyle. He had his arm around my shoulder, no biggie." I explained. Merlin, he didn't like that.
"Castton leave." Kyle didn't have to ask twice. He gave me an apologetic look and ran out of the classroom.
"Who do you think you are Rhoda?" Dad asked me in his devil voice.
"I'm Rhoda Alexandra Snape Sir." I uttered. Maybe I shouldn't have but I wanted to. I'm brave and I'm not a push over, but I've always been soft with my dad.
"How dare you!" He slightly raised his voice. Soon there will be spit flying everywhere. The tears were trying to attack again.
"Please dad. I just want to show you that Kyle didn't do anything wrong."
"Oh no Rhoda, that conversation is finished now. I would like to talk about why my youngest daughter feels the need to start acting like my older daughter." Oh great. Now I'm a mini Severina. I walked closer to the table now.
"I'm still your little girl dad." I decided to get even closer, just to see what happened.
"You have never been like this to me Rhoda. You have been here a day and already you feel the need to defy me." Devil voice makes a reappearance.
"No. I haven't changed. I don't want to defy you dad. I just thought that you overreacted a bit really." His face was turning red. Oh dear. I backed up a bit but he moved closer to me. I backed up again but he stepped closer again. "I'm sorry daddy, I am."
"Don't call me that!" He snapped. The tears shall fall! They streamed down my face silently and I didn't stop them.
"O-ok sir. I'll l-leave now." I turned and ran from the room. This was the worst day ever. I had never in my life made my dad angry. I was his little girl and not Severina. I am not a back-chatter, I do not defy teachers, but I did. I am a horrible daughter, but dad flew off the handle for no reason.
Severina P.O.V
I ambled down the corridor because I had nothing better to do. I think I was near the Hufflepuff common room. I just took my time and thought about things. I wish Fred didn't have to run off. I love spending time with him, I love him. Dad has got back into my good books after the Boggart incident and I have still not seen Rhoda yet after last night.
After about ten minutes of walking and heard someone stampeding towards me, I looked up and saw Rhoda. She was crying, she nearly ran past me but I caught her with my arm.
"Hey Rhoda. Are you ok?" She looked up at me and she sobbed. I held her in a tight hug. "I didn't expect to see you like this on your first day, what's wrong?" She looked like she was going to have a break down or something.
"D-dad." Was all she could say.
"What did he do?" I spat. This is his fault! He has never made Rhoda cry before.
"M-me and m-m-m-y fr-riend K-Kyle wh-where-"
"-stop Rhoda. I don't understand you. Let's go to dad's classroom." I held her shoulder whilst I guided her all the way to the dungeons. We where at the door and I don't bother knocking. I barged in and he was at his desk, his eyes widened slightly at us but then returned to normal. Stupid git, he cannot get away with this.
"What did you do?" I sneered. Rhoda was still crying but she held her face in her hands.
"I didn't do anything. Some boy was holding her so I gave him detention, then she retaliated and ran off." He shrugged. What an idiot.
"I don't believe you. You have never in your life made her cry!" I was getting angry now. I let go of Rhoda and kneeled in front of her. I prised her hands away from her face. Her eyes were red and puffy and her cheeks where red. She was sniffling and fresh tears were forming. I lifted her head, got up and stood behind her with my hands on her shoulders.
"Look at her dad. Look at what you did!" I told him with venom. He stared at Rhoda for a second and I could see his eyes filled with guilt. "Guilty about something?"
"I'm so sorry Rhoda." He walked forward and knelt in front of her, taking her little hands into his big ones. "I'm sorry, maybe I did overreact, and you can call me whatever you want as long as it isn't nasty." His voice was kind of soft but still cold.
"I-it's o-ok daddy. I f-forgive y-you." She smiled weakly and I squeezed her shoulders in reassurance. I let go and she flung herself at him. He stumbled a bit and I giggled. He patted her back awkwardly and looked at me then got up. Rhoda just held his waist instead and I decided to join. I put one hand on Rhoda's back and I put the other around my dad.
"This is weird. Snape's aren't meant to be like this!" I protested. Rhoda giggled and dads lip twitched at the corner.
"We are Snape's and we stick together. Let this year be a good one, we've had enough drama for one day I think." Dad explained. He was right. I pulled away and so did Rhoda. That was one soppy family moment right there.
"I knew you could be nice dad, you do have a heart somewhere." He glared at me and I just laughed. "Come on Rhoda, let's get to class." I put a hand on her shoulder and guided her out Of the classroom, I hope this year Is good, dad's right, too much drama for one day.
