Chapter 7.

Erin couldn't contain her excitement. After a month of being worried, her baby brother was finally awake and alive. She immediately called Karly, who was in Eric's room.

"Hello?" She answered as he picked up her phone.

"Mum, it's me. Erin. Billy is awake you need to come right now." Erin said and hang up.

The woman stood up quickly, approaching the door.

"Mum, what happened?" Eric asked as he opened his eyes.

"It's your brother, I have to go." She replied not giving him specific information.

Karly arrived in William's room in three minutes and they watched from the window for a few minutes before the doctor come out.

"How is he?" Karly asked.

"He'll make it. He's a bit confused and doesn't remember much from the accident but enough to know that there was one. We are concerned about one thing mostly, the place where he got stitches near his heart, like we told you when he first arrived here. He should be fine, but he needs to stay in the hospital till it is healed. We don't want the stitches to rip because that could end his life. If he wants to visit Eric, let us know and we'll let him use one of the wheelchairs. I doubt there will be any complications, but if so, just use the call button." The doctor explained before leaving.

Karly and Erin inserted the room quietly, only to see William slightly smiling at them. Erin immediately came over and hugged him as a few tears of joy streamed down her face. "I'm so happy, you are awake." She sighed.

"I'm happy to be awake, but if you keep squishing me, we're gonna have a problem." He joked as he hugged his sister.

Erin laughed as she let go of her brother, giving him a small break before Karly came and hugged him "I've missed you so much, baby." She whispered to his ear as she stroke his hair on the back of the head. After she let go, William asked what had happened in the past month, which Karly and Erin explained.

"How's Eric?" He asked.

"He's, um, at the house. He was busy." Erin stuttered.

"You sure?" William asked not believing her. He was certain that his brother would never leave him off guard.

"Yes. He is at the house." Karly lied too.

"Ok..." William trailed off.

"Honey, why don't you get some sleep?" Karly suggested as she helped him adjust into a laying down position.

"I've been "asleep" for a month now. Where's Angela? What about Eric? I want to see him!" William yelled sensing that something was wrong.

"Billy, just calm down." Karly told him as she set her hand on his shoulder.

"Where are they?" He demanded as he sat up violently causing pain in his chest. He cried out and clutched it.

"Billy!" Erin screeched as she ran over to him, hoping that he hadn't ripped a stitch.

"Erin..." He chocked out. "Mommy."

Karly went over to her pale son, who now had his eyes closed, but there was no need to click the call button. "It's ok baby. Mommy's here. It's gonna be alright now." Karly smiled assuringly, but with fear building up inside her, as she stroked his hair again.

After a while one of the doctors came in and motioned for them to leave. Karly walked to the waiting room in order to relax a bit and Erin went down to the cafeteria. The older woman could not be calm after what she'd been through the last month. A woman who was there too sat next to her offering her some coffee from the machine a little further.
