The obnoxious sound of my alarm filled my ears, indicating that it was 8 AM and that I, unfortunately, had to get up. I sighed as I hit the off button, lying in my bed for a few minutes before rolling off the edge.
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes as I threw a pair of jeans on along with a t-shirt, also known as pretty much the same thing I wear every day.
As I opened the door to walk out into the hall, I couldn't help but notice that Will was leaning against the doorframe, his hair still dripping wet from his shower. For the first time this week, his abs were covered with a gray t-shirt and he had managed to put jeans on.
I sighed as I stared at him, his eyes boring into mine like he had just heard I'd just killed someone.
We both stood there in silence, me with my hands in my pockets and him with his arms crossed over his chest. Finally, he spoke up, practically causing me to jump out of my skin.
"Well?", he asked, shifting his weight onto his other foot, still blocking my way.
"Well what?", I replied, crossing my arms over my chest to mock him.
"So you're not gonna tell me what that letter said?", he asked, a disappointed look on his face.
"What?", I asked, suddenly coming off more defensive than I would have liked.
"Look, I know it's personal and all, but nobody has sent you a single letter since high school. Hell, nobody even sends letters anymore. But here you are, reading a letter from someone and I wanna know it is.", he said, his words making my head pound.
For a moment, I just stood there in silence, my arms still crossed over my chest as I stared back at him. But I finally decided to speak, seeing as we couldn't just stand here all day.
"I don't know, okay? Happy?", I hissed back, throwing my arms up in irritation before turning back around, walking over to my bed before plopping down.
For some ungodly reason, I could feel tears stinging the backs of my eyes, threatening to come pouring down my cheeks any moment. I breathed in and out, trying to keep them from coming but sure enough, one of them managed to sneak out, streaming down my cheek before quickly being swiped away by the back of my hand.
I turned my face away from him as he sat down next to me, his arm wrapping around my shoulder and pulling me close to him, clearly seeing that I was upset.
"What do you mean you don't know?", he asked calmly, his voice smooth.
"I mean...I don't know.", I replied back, my voice shaky as I spoke. "He didn't include his name...he didn't even include a return address...", I said, another tear streaming down my face.
"Well then why are you crying?", he asked, leaning forward on the bed so that I could see my face.
"Because...he, whoever he is, said that I was the only one who seemed to understand him...", I replied, my voice cracking.
"Do you have any idea who it could be?", he asked, rubbing my back to get me to calm down.
"No...", I said, another tear streaming down my face.
Except this time, it wasn't my hand that wiped it away. It was Will's.
I turned to look at him, shocked as to why he would do that. He just stared back at me, a small smile on his face. And then the unthinkable happened.
He started to lean forward, his lips getting closer to mine. My heart lurched in my chest as the space between us slowly vanished.
But just as our lips were about to collide, the sound of a knock on the front door caused both of us to pull apart.
My heart sunk to my stomach as he stood up, walking towards the door to see who it was.
I flopped back onto the bed, a groan escaping my mouth before I placed a pillow over my head, wishing I could just disappear right then and there.
But my spirits were lifted when he entered the room again. Unfortunately, they fell again when I saw what he had in his hand. It was another letter.
I sat up in the bed, crossing my legs under my body as he handed me the envelope. But before I opened it, I looked up at him. There was no way I could open it in front of him.
"Um...do you mind?", I asked with a small voice, looking down at the envelope before looking back up at him.
"Oh, yeah, yeah, definitely.", he replied with a smile before turning on his heel, walking out into the hall and closing the door behind him, leaving me alone in my room.
I sighed before ripping the seal open, removing the folded up piece of paper from the small envelope. This time, there wasn't much to read.
Dear Zoe,
I know this is strange for you, not knowing who I am and all. But I promise you, it'll all be okay soon. Trust me.
Sincerely, Nobody
I felt my stomach turn as I reread the words over and over again. It'll all be okay soon. Trust me.
What had he meant? What was going to be okay soon? And how was I supposed to trust him when I didn't even know his name?
I felt tears coming again, but rather than let them come streaming down my cheeks, I buried my face in a pillow, screaming until my throat ached, something I found myself doing quite often these days....
I'm getting REALLY into writing this story. I hope you guys are really getting into it as well. Feel free to vote and comment to let me know what you think so far :D
