My head pounded as I laid it down on the cool countertop, my mind still reeling from the letter I'd read just moments before.
Will was currently brewing a pot of coffee, occasionally turning around to look at me to make sure I was okay. Although there weren't any tears streaming down my face, it was obvious that I was upset about the situation.
For a moment, I just sat there, my forehead resting on the granite before the clearing of Will's throat finally caught my attention, causing me to perk up in my seat.
He looked at me with worried eyes, a slight frown on his face.
"You okay?", he finally asked, slowly moving towards where I was sitting, his eyes still locked tight on mine.
"I'm fine...", I mumbled, resting my head in the palm of my hand.
Suddenly, I felt his hand on my shoulder, immediately comforting me. I looked up at him, my eyes scanning his face as he scanned mine, like he was looking for any sign that said I definitely wasn't fine.
"Don't lie to me, Zoe.", he replied, his eyes staring deep into mine, a worried look stretched across his face.
I hung my head, tears stinging my eyes again. When I looked up, his face was closer to mine, sending chills down my spine.
"I won't...", I mumbled, my eyes darting down to his lips, which were now only inches away from mine.
"Good.", he said, reaching his hand out and cupping my cheek, bringing my face up to his before our lips collided.
And as they did, I could feel my shoulders relax, almost as if a huge weight had been lifted off of them. His hand grabbed my waist, pulling me closer to him, closing the space between us.
My heart fluttered in my chest as I was lifted off the stool I'd been sitting on, suddenly being hoisted into the air by his muscular arms. I wrapped my legs around his waist, bringing my arms up so that they rested against his chest. I brought my one hand up, entangling it in his hair as he laid me down gently on my bed, our bodies still together.
I could feel him tugging at my shirt, trying to take it off. Rather than sit there and watch him struggle, I sat up, pulling the t-shirt over my head before throwing it into a corner of the room, my lips suddenly reconnecting with his. I could feel his lips curl upwards into a smile against mine, causing my heart to flutter again.
He pulled away, quickly removing his shirt like I had before also throwing it over in the corner. Once again, I couldn't help but stare at his perfect six pack and his tan and...
"Zoe.", he said with a chuckle, snapping my out of my trance.
"Hm?", I asked, slowly moving his eyes up his chest until they finally met his.
"You gonna be okay?", he asked with another laugh, looking down as his abs before looking back up at me, a grin forming on his face.
"Yeah...yeah, I think.", I said, still a little confused about what had just happened.
He rolled his eyes before smacking his lips back down onto mine, my heart stopping in my chest for a split second as his hand trailed down the side of my body, suddenly coming to rest on my thigh.
"I love you, Zoe...", he mumbled against my lips, his warm breath on my skin sending chills down my spine.
"I love you too, Will...", I mumbled back, entangling my fingers in his messy hair again.
I could feel him smile against my lips again, causing me to smile too.
And for the first time that evening, I hadn't once thought about that letter. Not once.
