"Jeffy! We are almost there" I heard out from my headphones. My mother always calls me that... Why doesn't she just call me by Jeff?
Once my song ends i take out my headphones from my ears and look at the sign.
'Tulsa, Oklahoma'
The population was written all over with spray paint and had holes from some bullets. Yep this must be it.. We arrive at the house and the car comes to a stop. I slam the car door open and jump out. I run around to the trunk and open it.
THUNK!
Great... Just what I wanted the day to start out with. A big bruise on my nose. I shake it off and grab my bag, Oh boy was it heavy! But I can't complain since I packed it. I waddle over to the door kicking it open with my foot. I study the rooms trying to choose which one I want. I find the small but comfortable room and place my bag on the floor. I looked at the walls seeing all the dirt and spiderwebs. Bleh...
My mother walked through the door with her bags and put them in her room. She hollers to me "Why don't you go meet the neighbors? I know they are about your age." My mom thinks I am social but when I am in a new town I am shy and quiet. Although I can't argue with her today. So I walk out the door and trip over a step, but I caught myself. Looking through the houses as I spot a little kid at one house. Boy if my mom is referring to him she needs to notice my age.. Might as well say hi to get this over with. I walk up to the brownish-blonde, white, young kid and put my hands in my black, torn up skinny jeans pockets. The boy looks up at me and gets a scared expression. I tell him "Hey little guy, no need to be scared. I ain't gonna hurt ya. I just moved here." He begins to smile at me. I can't help but to smile back at him. He has an innocent feeling to him. I ask him "What's your name little fella?" He responds "Pony-boy" I look at him and say "Wow neat name! Im Jeff." I chuckled as I lightly kick a pebble with my black hard boots. He invites me inside to meet his 'gang'. I start to think about his name and how strange it is. Once I walked through that screen door I saw 3 guys at my age and 2 little ones. I guess my mom was right....
I wave at them as Pony introduces me "Hey guys this is Jeff he just moved here! He is our new neighbor." Everyone seemed to look so tuff but approachable.
I scoot by Pony's side and say "Hi there." The oldest, black haired, strong guy introduces me with everyone. "Hello Jeff, I'm Darry." Darry points over to a young, stud looking guy with a blue work jacket and hat on. "That boy there is my brother Sodapop." Soda nods to me. Then Darry points over to a blackish-brownish curly haired guy with a Mickey Mouse t-shirt. "That's Two-Bit." Two-Bit looks over at me and smirks. "And that one is Johnny." Darry points to a Black haired, young, hurt child. I could tell how shy he was by the way he spoke "H..hi" His voice made a small stutter as he waved at me. I ask Darry things about the town and where the school is. I ended up talking with them for almost an hour. A young, handsome, tough guy walks into the house and sees me. Once I caught a glimpse of him my heart melted. He was the cutest guy I ever laid my eyes on. He asks Darry "Who is he?" I looked over to Darry waiting for him to answer. "That is Jeff, he just moved here." I wave to the guy and smile trying not to stare at him. Darry looks over at me and says "Oh I'm sorry Jeff.. This here is Dallas, but we call him Dally." I speak up but my voice is a little cracked today. "H-Hi Dally, Umm nice to meet you.." He says back "Hey, uh you too.." Dally walks to a room and shuts the door. I get my phone out from my pocket. Pony looks at it in amazement. I ask him "What.. Never had a phone before?" He replies "Nope, just the one on the wall."
Pony suggests to me "Hey! I got an idea.. You should stay the night here with me!" I look at him and nod my head yes. I know my mom wouldn't mind where I go. She already knows where I am. Pony runs over to Darry and asks him if I can stay. Darry says "Sure why not." I jump up happily and play around with Pony and Johnny. But I wish I could get to talk to Dally. I have never liked a person like this.. not ever until I saw him. Dally is just so damn perfect in every way. Just as I think of that Dally walks out and says "Jeff can sleep in my room. I don't mind at all." This day is just too good to be true!
