I sprint hard. Inhale. Exhale. Pump legs. Repeat. It's hard to keep up with her. For being so small she sure is fast. She's about 5'3 so I guess you could say she was average height. When she stops I stop. We are at an ally not far from the park we were originally at. Perfect, suspicious behavior then she leads me into a dark ally? This girl is well in her way to getting killed if you ask me. I lurk around the corner turning my head slightly into the narrow pathway. What I see is very unsettling. There's a figure, probably a man from the build of his shoulders, who is stand toe to toe with Lauren. Except the man looks angry while Lauren just looks plain terrified. I swear if he touches her he's gonna get it. "Where were you?" The man asks, his voice is eerie and husky. Very unattractive if you ask me. No, I'm not gay. "I-I w-was out walking, F-Father." This was her father?!? I would also probably remain silent if I had such a crap father. "Oh," he starts pacing around her. I don't like where this is going. "You mean when I specifically told you NOT TO!!" His calmness turns to anger in a flash. Lauren stands with her head down the whole time. I can see the tears dripping slowly down her cheeks. Some land on her dried lips while others quietly splash in the asphalt surface. Then it happens. Everything was slow motion. The hit. The fall. The horrifying sounds resonating off the walls right to my ears piercing my skull. He grabs her by the hair and slams her to the ground with a large thud. She's screaming loud yet no one is hearing. They all listen but they don't hear. As he goes to kick her I've had enough. "HEY!" I yell loudly before I can shove the words back in. His head snaps to me as I run up to him and shove him back. "DON'T TOUCH HER!" I threaten. I have no idea where all this is coming from but I like it. "Oh yeah?" He taunts." What are you gonna skinny boy?" Wow, that really hit a nerve. I punch him square in the face and am about to deliver another punch but he beats me to it. Pain explodes in my stomach as I double over onto the hard floor. I go to get up but he pins me down a repeatedly drives his fist into my face. I look over slightly to see Lauren crouching on her knees, covering hers ears. "STOP IIITT!!" She pleads. She looks so desperate. I have to do this for her. I'm not weak. I tell myself as I heave against her fathers grip on my shoulders. The plan being a success, I go for his head. Not enough force to kill him only to knock him out for a long while. When he's down I rush to Lauren's side. "Hey, shhhh, you're okay," I sooth, rubbing circles on her back. She's still sobbing hysterically. I tilt her head up slightly so I can see her face. It's already purple and yellow. "Are you okay?" I ask. I know she's not though. "I-it's okay-y I'm used to it by now." She admits shamefully. "Why didn't you say something?" I asked. If I was getting continuously beat by my father I would tell someone. But I'm not the one in the situation now am I? "He told me he would kill me if I did."
