We were all sitting eating pizza in silence. It was a good silence. Not like the awkward kind. Until...
"Hey, you know what we should do?" Isaac said. Oh God, any idea Isaac had was a bad idea. One time he said that it would be a good idea to skateboard down two flights of stairs. You could only imagine what happened next. One broken arm and a fractured clavicle. Yeah, it was not good. "We should go swim in the Mississippi River."
"Isaac, it's July it's going to be super hot." I reasoned. I've always been a realist. "Well duh. That's why we would swim you crapwaffle!"
"Fine. Lauren are you up for a little swim?" She just kept staring at her lap. I knew something was wrong. She's normally quiet but not this quiet. "Umm I-I uh-"
"Great! I'll take take that as a yes!" Of course leave it to Isaac to not give a crap about Lauren says. She shot me a nervous glance before we both crawled into bed together. Hopefully the nightmares won't chase her tonightWe got up the next morning, literally at the crack of dawn. Lauren slept the whole way there. You've got to be really tired to conk out in the stiff interior of my car. When we finally arrived at the side of the river. I have to admit that I didn't think this was a good idea at first but, now I'm kinda excited about this. Lauren didn't look to eager though. She looked pale as a ghost and had prominent red and purple bags under her eyes. Her hands were constantly shaking too. I don't know what was getting to her so bad so I walked up to her. "Hey, you okay?" She looked up at me with that fake smile. "Yeah... Everything's okay." She whispered that last part. "Alright but if you aren't please tell me, okay?"
"Okay."
I hopped into the water and started to splash around with Isaac. We just did normal boy stuff you know, like wrestling each other or pushing the other's head underwater. Lauren was just standing on the shore fiddling with her sweater sleeves. The sweater was starting to get loose threads from her constantly picking at it. It's such a shame. That was my favorite one. "Hey Lauren, you wanna jump in!" I yelled from the water. She just shook her head and started to back away slowly from the water's edge. Now I knew for sure that something was up. "Hey, what's wrong? Hey, look at me." I said softly. I took her chin in my finger and tilted her head upwards so she could see me. "What going on inside that little head of yours hmm?"
"I-I uh I c-c'n, I c-can't swim
