Chapter Thirteen..

"Oh." I said. I probably should have known this considering that when she so much as went for a walk he flipped his crap and punched her. "It's alright I can teach you." I looked at her with sympathy knowing she's probably embarrassed, but she shouldn't be.

I took her hand in mine and lead her to the shoreline. She stopped for a second and tested the water with her foot; quickly retracting it but she stepped in anyways. I was supporting all her weight in the water at this point not that there was very much to support. She took in a sharp breath and clung to me like a koala for dear life.

"Okay so you just kick your feet and paddle your arms like this." She nodded so I knew she understood at least a little bit. "Okay, I'm going to let go of you now alright. Do you understand?" She started to shake her head wildly. "No, please don't let go. I'm scared."
"It's okay you'll be fine. I promise I'm right behind you." She finally nods and prepares herself for the jump. I immediately let go and am met with the response of splashing water and arms thrashing around.

She darts towards the shoreline and clumsily scrambles up the riverbank in a panic. She backed out on all fours staying low to the ground. She had a wild traumatized look in her eyes. She was breathing heavily and shivering from to toe. I went out to go help her. Wow, this really made me look bad. I promised she wouldn't get hurt and now she's probably scared of water forever. Thanks a lot me for being a stupid pansy.

I take her into my arms and sit her on my lap allowing her to snuggle up against me. "Hey you don't have to swim if you don't want to." Her heart rate was slowing down to a more normal pace but her breathing was still ragged and heavy. "N-no it's n-not that it's just." She sighs a heavy sigh. "It's just what? Lauren you know you can tell me anything right? It's just what?"
"I-it just brings back m-memories"
"What memories?" I pry. "Him. T-to pu- punish me he would f-fill up the b-bathtub and force m-my head underwater to the p-point were I would a-almost pass out." She sniffled. "He w-would do this again and again until he was s-satisfied with my pain. I h-hated it so much. It hurt so bad." She sobbed. I stroked her hair lovingly and said. "I'm so sorry. I can't imagine what it must've been like. Don't worry that A-hole will never lay another finger on you. I promise. Her lips suddenly crashed into mine. I was taken aback by this but eventually melted into the kiss. Right now we were the only two people in the world. It was just me and Lauren. Lauren and I.
