**3rd person POV**

"How many times have we told you to stay away from those things!?" Friendly shouted, face stern, hands on hips.

Wynter shamefully hung his head, twiddling his thumbs. His feet were crossed beneath him on his bed. The dim moonlight shone through a crack in the shutters, gently lighting up the room. The lamp on Wynter's bedside table worked, but wasn't switched on.

"It's bad enough that you sneak out at night when you know what lurks around, but when you deliberately search for a shadow!? Not just any shadow, a rank three shadow! What were you thinking!?"

"I-I thought I could do it this time..."

"Just like all the other times, Wynter? When are you gonna get the message!? You can't kill a shadow, you're a human! You could have been killed out there!"

Jack gently wraps his arm around her front and pulls her back. "Calm down, snowflake."

"I am calm!" She almost screams.

"Friendly." Jack retorts in a firm, warning tone.

Friendly opens her mouth but quickly shuts it. She looks at Wynter, then at Jack, then shakes her head and walks towards the window. "I need some air." She breathes before phasing through the metal shutters.

Jack sighs and shakes his head to himself before gazing down at Wynter from the corner of his eye. Wynter hugged his knees to his chest and rubs his face with a groan.

"She's really mad at me..."

"Yeah. She is." Jack agrees, slight amusement in his voice. He slowly sits himself down on the edge of the bed and leans closer to the boy. "This is the fifth time you've snuck out this month, Wynter. That's one hundred and sixty eight times you've lost in a row. You really need to stop with this fantasy of being a Shadow Hunter."

Wynter looked up at Jack with a mixture of hurt and longing in his eyes. "But it's what I've always dreamed of! I just wanna be like you guys...saving lives, bringing the world back to peace, actually being worth something!"

"But you are worth something! You're way more special than you feel, kiddo. Trust me on that." Jack gave him a kind smile, but Wynter's eyes still held uncertainty. "Now, you really need to stop this constant sneaking out. You're giving poor Friendly a headache, she's got enough to deal with already."

"I though she liked coming to see me." Wynter says with an amused smile.

"Of course she does. She just doesn't like coming to see you like this. It would be pretty nice to visit you without any trouble for once."

"Well that's a massive shame, since you pretty much describe me as the definition of 'trouble'." Wynter smirks.

"Because you are!" Jack chuckles, poking him on the forehead, making him giggle.

Suddenly, Friendly phases through the wall and Wynter's giggling immediately stops. Friendly's shoulders sag after she lets out a quiet sigh. "I'm sorry, buddy. I didn't mean to yell at you." She apologises.

Wynter shrugs. "S'okay. I deserved it anyway."

Friendly gives him a smirk and walks up to him, holding her hand out. "Truce?"

Wynter doesn't hesitate to take it with an amused smile. "Truce."

"Alright, now that we've all made up, I think it's time you went to bed." Jack announced, standing up and shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Jack, I'm thirteen years old now. I'm officially a teenager, so can go to bed whenever I want!" Wynter grins, clearly proud of his age.

"Uhh, actually, no you can't. Cuz you're still a kid and right now, it's waaaaaay past your bed time." Friendly smirks, smugly.

"Oh yeah? Well, you aren't my Mother, so you can't tell me what to do." He backfires, mirroring her smirk.

"Do you want us to wake your parents up?" Jack threatens and Wynter goes pale.

"No! No, no, no need for that!" Wynter protests nervously. "G'night."

Friendly chuckles as he tucks himself under the covers, clothes and all. "Goodnight, Wynter."

Just as he closes his eyes, a long stream of golden sand floats above his head. Friendly gently plants a kiss on the top of his head before taking Jack's hand and phasing them through the wall. Outside, Light was waiting patiently for them, perched on a tree branch on a rather dead looking tree.

Up in the sky, Sandman was perched on his little cloud of sand, finally able to finish his job for the night now the rebellious little teenager was finally tucked safely in bed. He waved at Friendly and Jack and Jack waved back in thanks, Friendly settling for just raising her hand. She looked further up past Sandman and her small smile, instantly faded.

Nights were never as bright as they had been before. They had been darker than ever since that day it all went downhill. Much lower than downhill to be more specific. The Guardians were the world's only hope now. From now on, they had to work without their friend, the man in the moon.

Every day and every night, he struggled to keep his light shining down on the crumbling earth, since more than half of the once beautiful glowing sphere, was clouded by thick, cold, darkness.

**Cupid's POV**

I stared up into the sky, my feet dangling off the edge of the broken building. What was left of the moon shone above me. I had memorised every single dark area, every single crack and they were slowly growing larger every single day as Manny was slowly losing his battle.

What would happen if he lost? What on earth would we do if he was completely consumed by darkness? We can't let that happen. We can't.

"How's he doing?" A voice behind me asks. I look over my shoulder and weekly smile at Nature as she slumps down next to me, her feet dangling over the edge. I knew she was referring to MiM.

I pointed up at him, angling my finger over a certain area. "See that little curve, right there?" She nodded. "That spread out within the last hour. But just a little. It's been going back and forth for the last few days now."

"Ah. So he's hanging in there?"

"Yeah...you could say that."

I heard her sigh sadly and saw her hang her head in the corner of her eye. "I wish we could do something." She said, barely above a whisper.

I nodded and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. She instantly leaned into me and I held her close, my white feathered wings wrapping around our bodies like a shield. "Hey...don't worry about him. He's stronger than you think. He'll get through this." I reassured, mostly to myself.

I felt her nod and I planted a kiss on the top of her head. We stayed like this for quite some time, just enjoying each other's company. It was nice to take a small break from all of the chaos that occurred in the night.

The sky slowly got brighter, and soon the sun was gently rising in the horizon, it's gentle rays warming our cool skin, indicating that our night shift was finally over. Nature was the first to stand up, straightening her green armour.

"Come on. We best be heading back." She said, holding her hand out for me. I took it and thanked her as she hauled my up to my feet.

I took one last look at the beautiful sunrise, soaking in the warmth, before taking Natures hand and stepping through the colourful portal that lead back to the cavern, hidden deep within the North Pole.
