The night was still young and, amongst all the other people in the club, these two decided to call it a night. Marissa and Cameron were a bit tired, so they walked home as they took Ronny and Caleb's car to go to the club.
Even though they could have took a cab but did not feel for the night to end just yet,
Marissa had both her arms crossed, trying to protect herself from the cold, which didn't go unnoticed by Cameron, so he immediately removed his jacket and placed it on Marissa's shoulder.
"I am fine. I am not feeling that cold." Marissa told him.
"Well, the important point is that you are feeling cold. And what kind of a guy will I be if I let my friend suffer in this cold weather?" Cameron nudged her.
"Not a very good one. But what about you? Aren't you feeling cold?" She asked him with concern.
"No. Don't worry, I am fine." He reassured her.
Both of them were walking in silence when Cameron decided to break it by asking her, "What are you thinking about?" He had both his hands in his jeans pocket.
"Don't you think this is strange?" Marissa asked him.
"What is strange?" Cameron asked in confusion.
"We both are walking together." She stated.
"What's so strange about it?" Cameron asked her again not getting her point.
"Who would have thought that, out of all the people in the world, we would be walking together? I never thought I would ever see a day where you would give me your jacket, let alone take care of me when I was not able to walk. Honestly, I never expected to ever meet you." She explained to him.
"Yes, me too. Meeting you did came out as a surprise to me but I am glad we found each other again. I just wish things had been different back then. Only if I had given our marriage a chance, then maybe today we would have been happily married. Who knows, we might also have a kid or two." Cameron told her.
"What's done is done. It doesn't matter now."
"True but you cannot help but imagine how different things would be if different choices was made. I often wonder how my life would be if my biological mom and dad were alive."
"I heard that you were very little when they..."
Cameron nodded, "Yeah. Way too young to even remember anything about them. Unlike Olivia and Jason, I only have handful of their photos. I do love my adoptive parents, I sincerely do but deep down I wish that if my family did not go through the shit they did then my life would really have been different."
"You still had a good life, Cameron." Marissa said.
"I did. I realised that much later. But I did not always think the same. Especially when Jason and Olivia told me the entire truth about our past. I was so pissed. It felt like my entire world had changed."
"When was it exactly?"
Cameron sighed, recalling the moment when Olivia and Jason told him everything. "I had turned eighteen and was about to leave for university in few weeks. They mentioned that, they wanted to disclose everything to me sooner but they did not wanted to disrupt my life. Mom and dad wanted to reveal the truth to me because they did not felt right to hide everything so they convinced my siblings to tell me everything. Even though, I was astounded and it took me a while to come around but during that phase I understood a lot of things."
"Jenny did mention that when you found the truth you often had your moments,"
"I did and it not my proudest moments. Especially when I played an adoptive card towards everyone. I was also unknowingly got pissed at Jenny. She is a miracle baby of our family. Mom and dad had lost all hopes of having children but then Jennifer Bernard came into this world surprising us all. We did have a great relationship just like any other siblings but after knowing the truth, I started blaming her whenever mom and dad took her side instead of mine or whenever she supported them. I knew that they always had best intention in their heart and still does but have not always been the best son when they have been the best parents and took me in and helped Olivia when she was in need. Even after so much shit everyone in my family have been through I did had a good life and took it for guaranteed."
