It's been a month since Mal's bout with the curse and her revival. She's been staying awake for the full day and even sitting up. Whenever I can, I'd use the desk set up in the room for paperwork so I can stay by Mal's side. She's definitely getting better. She's started sketching again when she's not trying to muddle through school work.

The nurse says she may be more forgetful, whether it be the concussion, fever or dying for a time. It all depends on time.

I'm lying beside her one night, her small, thin form fitting in my arms perfectly. "I lied," she whispers.

I look at her. "What?"

"I do know how I got here," Mal whispers. "I remember what happened when I- I died."

"Shh," I hush. "It's alright- you don't have to tell me if you don't want too."

"But I do," she insists. "I- I need to. Please." I nod and pull her closer. "I- I woke up in a bright room. It was so empty. Then, I- I saw all of our lives play out. I was shown how your lives would go on if I stayed dead. I was given a choice- enter paradise and be happy every day or- or come back. I chose to come back to you and Evie and Carlos and Jay. I- couldn't leave you."

I smile and kiss her forehead. "I couldn't be happier with your choice."

She nods and curls into me. "I love you."

I look down at her, surprised. "Wh-what?" I ask.

"I love you," Mal repeats. "I love you so much."

"You've never said that to me," I tell her.

Now she looks confused. "I thought-"

"You thought you were dying, it doesn't count," I interrupt.

She leans up and kisses me. "You've dealt with so much lately- running a kingdom, taking care of me, staying with me, not to mention the emotional roller coaster. I'm sorry to put you through so much."

I shake my head. "Never be sorry. You're okay and that's what matters. I wouldn't have it any other way."

I think for a moment before sitting up. "Ben?" she asks.

"I was planning on waiting," I mention. I dig through a drawer in the desk and pull out a small box. "Mal, you're the love of my life and I don't want to spend another day without you. Will you marry me?"

She smiles and nods. "Yes, yes I will." She leans forward, falling into my arms. Her legs wrap around my waist as she pulls me forward in a kiss. I hold her thighs, picking her up and setting us both on the bed. "I love you," she mumbles between kisses. Her lips find my neck, kissing just under my chin. She pulls on a point, her hands working on the buttons of my shirt. I pull her shirt over her head, my hands massaging her waist before moving up to her chest.

Our hour-long make out session ends when Mal starts nodding off. I hold her against myself, pulling the blanket over us.

We announce our engagement the next day, the kingdom roaring with excitement and cheer. After two more months of rest and recovery. Mal's up and walking on her own. She still can't exert herself but she's doing better than before. I guess being a villain's descendant has consequences.
