King Ben walks out of the room slowly; I notice the tears running down his cheeks. I walk towards Mal and move her to the stretcher, securing her to it and covering her in the cloth before looking outside. Queen Belle and King Adam are standing there, the king comforting his queen. I pull Mal out and start to wheel her down the hall. "Wait," Queen Belle calls. I stop and look back at her. "May I- may I see her, one last time?"

I nod and move the sheet. "I can give you a moment with her but I do need to take her away."

Queen Belle nods. "Thank you."

I walk down to my desk and start to pull out files. After a minute or two, King Adam rolls the stretcher down towards me. "Thank you, for all that you did for Mal. She would have appreciated it."

I nod. "I only wish it was enough. She didn't deserve this."

King Ben smiles sadly, looking down at her. "Nobody does."

I take Mal down to the room at the end of the hallway. Being an office so close to school, the school generally just sends students here but we are a full doctor's office with a small morgue hidden away at the end. It's hardly ever used, mostly for those who die of old age.

I wheel her in and move the cover, checking for a pulse or breathing of any kind. "For the record; Mal Bertha. Age: Eighteen, Birthday: January nineteenth, nineteen ninety-seven. Assumed cause of death: Death curse cast by her mother Maleficent for the first day she turned eighteen. Autopsy to be conducted in the morning. Officially dead as of twenty-three oh four, military time. I just checked for a pulse along both her wrist and neck; there are no signs of error. No signs of breathing either." I turn of the recorder and set it aside. Replacing the sheet, I move Mal's body into the cooler for the night, washing up and leaving.

The lights go out across campus. In the castle, Adam and Belle cover Ben with a comforter, him having cried himself to sleep. They lie down beside their son, Ben subconsciously seeking the comfort of a mother's touch.

Jay, Evie, Carlos, Audrey, Doug, Lonnie and Jane spend the night together in the boys' room, seeking comfort in each other. Jay's holding the box of letters in his arms.

Death feels wrong in the body of the young. No one deserves to see or feel the harsh honesty of what will be all our ends and yet, one young lady found the truth far too soon. The universe has spoken. In the morgue's cooler, magic courses through a young fairy's veins, working to destroy the curse. The potion starts to work again, in time with her heart. As the potion continues to work its way through her veins, a small, quiet heartbeat pulses through her body.

The sun rises on the new day but no one can seem to find the joy of life. They knew since Mal entered their lives, nothing would ever be the same.

In the morgue, the counter potion finishes its job, sending one last pulse through her body; a jumpstart. Mal's heart speeds up, returning to a regular pace. Her eyes flutter open, jumping around the metal walls of the cooler. Despite her fear, the cold lulls her back to unconsciousness, unable to move either way.

The nurse walks in that morning, checking on the rooms and tidying up before walking to the morgue. She pulls out Mal's body and pulls off the cover. She grabs her recorder and turns it on. "Autopsy on Mal Bertha to commence." The nurse looks at up at Mal's face, her eyes closed in almost a peaceful manner. Her eyes trace down the young girl's body, looking at what has become of her. She stops for a moment, watching her chest. "What?"

Mal's chest moves again, taking in another breath. Her eyes scrunch for a moment before fluttering open. "Wh-what?' she asks.

"Mal?" the nurse asks. She moves so Mal can see her. "Mal, can you hear me?"

Mal looks at the nurse and nods slightly. The nurse immediately pulls off the restraints and takes her hand. Mal coughs for a moment. "Where a-am I?" Mal asks.

"The morgue," the nurse tells her, cautiously. She looks surprised. "You died yesterday. I couldn't find your pulse and you weren't breathing. How do you feel?"

"Cold," Mal mumbles.

The nurse nods and rolls the stretcher down the hall. "Let's get you back upstairs and warmed up, alright?"

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

The nurse takes her up and into a room, lifting her onto a bed and covering her in blankets. She gives Mal an IV, nasal cannula and a heart monitor. The nurse pulls out her cell phone, calling Fairy Godmother. "You better get down here, right now."

The nurse just called and I'm walking down to the office now. When I get there, the nurse is excited. "I have great news," she cheers.

I'm pulled into a room and frown when I see Mal. "Please don't do this," I ask. "Mal deserves to be respected. She's-"

"She's alive!" the nurse cheers. "I don't know how but she's alive." The nurse walks over and rubs a hand over the back of Mal's hand. "Mal, wake up for a minute, please. Mal!" It takes a moment but Mal's eyes flutter open and her head turns towards us. "Please, tell me I'm not crazy! I took her pulse five times last night. I've taken it ten times since I found her like this this morning."

I smile and walk over. "Mal?" I ask. "How do you feel?"

"Wh-whers Bn?" she asks.

I nod and pull out my phone. "I can call him here immediately. You just sit there and rest."

I step outside and call Belle. "Hello?" she asks. I hear the strain in her voice from the tears.

"Belle, I have good news. You need to bring Ben to the nurse's office right now, alright?"

"I'm not sure, Fairy Godmother," Belle says. "I don't think he can go back there."

"Belle, this is about Mal. Something happened, we don't know how but- she's alive, Belle. She's breathing and she has a heartbeat. She's alive and asking for Ben."

"Wh-what?" Belle asks. "That shouldn't be possible."

"I don't understand it either. But here we are- please you need to get him here."

"I'll get him there, even if Adam has to carry him," Belle assures.

I turn back to Mal and smile. She's fallen asleep again. "She's exceedingly weak right now but there are a multitude of causes for this. It could be the curse, the potion, not moving for a few days or the fact that she was dead for a time. She'll need plenty of rest and help from her friends."

I smile and move the hair from Mal's face. "I would not be surprised if Ben insists she stays at the castle until she's better."
