_____^_^_____June 5
Abidah woke up with a startling headache. She raised her hands to try and soothe the throbbing at the back of her head but soon realized her hands were bound and so were her feet. She shook her head to get rid of the foggy haze behind her eyes but the only thing she accomplished was making her headache worse.
The early morning sun in all its brilliance was dispersed around her in golden rays and its warmth penetrated her clammy skin. The damp grass beneath her was only slightly comforting against her back and because of her being tied up from assuming last night she had aches in places she didn't know she had.
She groaned in frustration and was just about to try and get up when she felt something lightly brush against her left ear. This made her jolt upwards, red hair flying in every which way. Her head smacked into something hard and the contact caused her ears to ring and her headache to multiply tenfold. She cursed under her breath and eased back down on the ground waiting for the pain to subside a little.
She heard a snap from above her head along with a disgruntled snort. She opened her eyes again and came face to face with Ashkelon's big head.
"Hey bud, you scared me." She pressed her forehead against his and smiled while letting out a sigh of relief that it was only Ashkelon.
"I see you're finally awake." Abidah moved her head slowly in the direction of the voice. It was the Prince's bodyguard Cerul and she pinned him with a wary stare.
"What's going on?" She enquired while trying in a failed attempt to free herself from her too tight bonds.
"Do you recall anything that happened the night before?"
"The night before..." She pressed her memory to see if anything came up but there were only small flashes of scenes. She tried to dig deeper scrunching her brows together but this only caused a searing hot pain to shoot across her forehead, something akin to being struck by lightning.
She fell back with a gasp, chest heaving.
"Hey take it easy, no need to push yourself." Cerul went forward and placed a gentle hand to her forehead. He lifted a cup of water to her lips and she drank from it greedily.
"I can't remember, why can't I remember?" She looked at Cerul with confused and pleading eyes but there was nothing he could do for he himself didn't know why she couldn't remember.
Cerul took a good look at the girl lying before him. There was no way this girl killed her parents, he would have to have a talk with the Prince about it because the look in her eyes didn't show a girl who was capable of hurting a fly.
Killing a man did things to you. It changed you. No matter how pure your heart was or how strong your resolve was having blood on your hands was like a termite eating away at your soul. The guilt would latch on to the light inside of you and eat away at it until there is nothing but empty space that leaves you feeling hollow inside. It would dim the spark in a person's eyes until they were nothing but a shell of their former glory.
And as Cerul thought before, the look in this girl's eyes showed none of those traits and of all people he should know what killing a man does to someone.
"Come, get up. We will be leaving in a few minutes." Cerul hoisted the girl up by her arms but realized that her feet needed to be set free in order for her to stand, so he set her back down and undid the ropes.
"Thank you." Said Abidah but she really didn't know what she was apologizing for after all, he was the one who had her tied up in ropes.
Cerul gave her a small smile but if he only knew how much that smile had eased her racing heart.
