Dowent
Pepper's Books and ThingsThey all watched as Prym studied the dagger. Her eyes wide and her nose twitching in fascination. She cast questioning eyes at Evera who only gave her a single nod as if to answer her unasked question.
“Well, isn’t this interesting.” Said Prym. “And here I thought you had somehow missed me and brought some friends to visit.” Prym sighed.
“I apologize for barging in on you Prym and I wish we had come under better circumstances.” Evera got up and rested a hand on her shoulder.
“Oh don’t worry about it, I’ve already forgiven you,” she patted Evera’s hand then turned her eyes onto Abidah, “that’s because what you have brought to show me here today has peaked my interest to the highest degree. When you have lived for as long as I have the days join into each other and you find yourself in a state of boredom you just can’t get out of.”
“If that’s the case then how old are you?” Prym’s expression changed completely as she shot scathing eyes at Sylvan. The boy cowered a bit and he unconsciously took a step backward.
“That’s none of your business. Didn’t you mother ever tell you it’s rude to ask a lady about her age?”
“Pardon me ma’am I meant no offense.” Sylvan’s gaze lowered to the floor.
“You young people always say you mean no offense right after you’ve done or said something offensive, think before you speak boy or your mouth will get you in trouble one of these days.”
Sylvan hung his head in shame and didn’t utter a single word. Maurie who was standing closest to him grabbed one of his arms that hung limply by his side to try and comfort him, but the boy, however, showed no response.
At the same time, Aide made no move to comfort his brother. Abidah shot him a pointed look but he took no steps towards Sylvan. This was because in his mind this was a lesson well learnt. He knew his brother and Sylvan was the type to learn from his mistakes so he was not worried that the boy would get shut down from just a little scolding. He won’t always be there to help his brother when things get rough so he needs to learn how to handle the consequences of his actions.
Abidah sighed and looked back at Sylvan, her sister’s bad habits were so rubbing of on the boy. She couldn’t help but let out a silent prayer for him. Her sister was known to get in trouble because of her mouth and Abidah hoped she wouldn’t drag the young prince in her escapades.
“Come now Prym, no need to be so harsh with the boy,” said Evera, “you can’t fault the boy for not knowing that you’re sensitive about your age. Who cares if you’re over a hundred years old, you don’t look a day over sixteen and have the cutest face I ever did see.” Evera eyes twinkled with mirth as she pinched Prym’s cheeks.
Prym smacked Evera’s hand away from her face just as Abidah let out gasp in surprise. She wanted to ask Prym if she was really over a hundred years old but seeing how upset the woman became when Sylvan asked her earlier Abidah decided to keep her mouth shut for the sake of them all.
Prym who was still a bit upset grumbled in annoyance as she turned towards a door in the far corner of the room and beckoned for them to follow. They trailed hastily behind her, not wanting to get her upset again.
The door opened up to a large circular room that was filled with numerous shelves of books from floor to ceiling. And for the umpteenth time that day everyone’s eyes and mouths were open in astonishment.
