I had borrowed markers from Toby earlier in the day. What do I plan on doing with them? Well, this may have sounded childish but I planned on making something for the boys. I had to tell them that I had left someway or the other, so why not do it in style? I got to work and around 11, went to bed. After all, I had to leave early next morning.
Mr Simon had informed me of the time that I was going to be picked up. He was going to come by the McDonough Mansion at 7 am the next morning. At first, I hadn't favoured the time but then, I came to realise that maybe it was best that I left early before the boys woke up. I felt so bad that I was leaving two weeks before Riley's birthday! I just hoped that Mrs. McDonough, Connor and Toby would be able to pull it off without me. I closed my eyes and blocked out all thoughts that were likely to prevent me from sleeping. How'd I do that? I guess that I could give my time in Singapore credit for that.
My phone woke me up at 6 next morning. I sat in bed with no emotion inside me, which was very surprising. I looked around the room as if it was an unknown room I had suddenly woken up in. I frowned and got out of bed and slowly got dressed. I checked my stuff and zipped up my bags for the last time. I really couldn't believe it! Taking one last look at 'my room', I picked up my bags and dragged them downstairs. I couldn't help but remember the first day when Connor, Riley and Toby had grabbed my bags and brought them up for me. I smiled when I saw Mr. McDonough step out of his and Mrs. McDonough's room and he helped me with the bags. He smiled sadly at me and a minute later, Mrs. McDonough joined us in the lobby and gave me a squishing hug, which I gladly returned with the same force.
We broke apart and they led me into the dining room, where Albero had prepared a 'super early' breakfast for me. I smiled sadly at his tear stained face. Before sitting down, I gave him a big hug. I then had breakfast and after that? I just wished that I could capture every detail of the house in my phone and/or my brain. I just randomly roamed around the house when I remembered something. I grabbed three notes/cards out of my bag, some scotch tape and dashed upstairs. I stopped in front of the boys' doors and smiled when I saw that they still had my first notes on their doors. Taking the scotch tape, I taped the notes/cards on each boys' door and walked to the stairs. I turned.
"This isn't goodbye, guys. Its just a 'See Ya Later'. So, see ya later, guys," I whispered and smiled slightly. I heard a faint car horn.
"Haley, Mr. Simon is here," Mr. McDonough informed me from the foot of the staircase. I nodded. Taking one last look at Connor, Riley and Toby's doors and ignoring the lump forming in my throat, I headed downstairs. I hugged Mr and Mrs. McDonough one last time before heading to Mr. Simon's car.
"Haley dear, Alberto made you snacks for the ride," Mrs. McDonough told me and handed me a lunch box. I smiled.
"Thank Alberto for me," I said.
"Will do, dear," she replied, her voice breaking. I turned away before I broke and opened the back door of Mr. Simon's car and climbed inside.
"Haley, I hope your stay was well, yes?" Mr.Simon said to me. I nodded.
"It was, Mr. Simon. It really was," I replied with a smile. He nodded and started the engine and slowly started driving down the road. Myeyes were glued to the mansion and I watched it disappear as we drove further and further from it.
"Goodbye," I whispered.
