It has been six years since I first arrived in Gravity Falls, Oregon, to investigate the unexplained and the paranormal. I am so close to finding the source of these unexplained phenomena and uncovering the weirdness dimension, but one fact still eludes me. One being, shrouded in the very mysteries I set out to solve, has dodged every one of my attempts to discover the truth. I am so close, and yet I still must know: Who is Bill Cipher?

And so our story begins. It begins with a question. And though we will get to the answer soon, we must start not with the answer, but the asker of the question. And so, we must first discover not the identity of Bill Cipher, but Stanford Pines, the young man who arrived in Gravity Falls just six years prior...
