Chapter One

Lilly Pov

Crack ! Thump! Thump! Crack!
Those are the sounds someone would hear if they walked past the basement door. But of course no one ever did. Day in day out it would go like this.

I'd rest in the corner in immense pain, starving. Then at night he'd come down the stairs and take his anger out on me and I'd take it with out a sound.

I don't know how I ended up here. I was young, wandering in a beautiful forest then a flash of light and I was in a bustling city I'd never seen before. I was taken in by a nice couple who I learned where foster carers.

But when they had their own child a couple of years later I was left alone again. Home after Home and I grew to know this strange world and everything in it up until now.

I sit in a damp, dark corner hugging my knees and trying my hardest not to cry out due to the pain in my back. Trying to figure out how I got here and why this was happening to me.

I'm deep in thought when the door opens and I brace myself for whatever comes down those stairs. I hear multiple voices and a frantic babbling of another girl and I tense.

The next thing I know the girl is shoved through the door and tumbles down the steps. I hear multiple cracks and thuds making me cringe. Once she reaches the bottom of the stairs she rolls further and ends up on her back breathing heavily.

She rolls onto her stomach and gets up on all fours and chuckles. Meanwhile I'm in this corner with wide eyes thinking " what the fuck just happened ?" The girl chuckles again and stands up.

She trudges over to me holding her side. She holds out her hand and I warily take it. She pulls me up before taking in another ragged breath. "What's your name kid ?" I take a breath before answering her. "Lilly, you ?"

She smiles at me. "Your ticket outta here. Or Mina it's shorter." I smile as I take in the sight of my 'ticket outta here'. She has to be at least 29 maybe 30. Not too young but not old. She has brunette hair like mine but it's longer and dirtier than mine. She's about 5'8 and athletic build so I guess she went to the gym or whatever before she ended up here. Her eyes are the weirdest part. They are the most bluest blue I've ever seen.

An amused chuckle brings me out of my thoughts and I blush when I realise I was staring. "Uh sorry, it's ah been ages since another person has talked or look at me instead of hitting me." Her eyes soften a this and she nods.

"Yea I know the feeling." She says quietly. She then claps her hands and grins. "Right escape plan. Let's start. Tell me everything little thing you know about this place." I breathe in.

"Okay so. I know we're in a town because I often hear cars and stuff pass by as well as people and try as I might I can't get their attention at all. I know we're in a sparsely populated area and I'm pretty sure no one knows we are down here."

Mina looks at me in boredom. "Well now that we have the obvious stuff outta the way let's get to the actual plan. Okay we need keys, clothes weapons and a car." I look at her in suprise.

"What ! Why do we need all that ? More importantly I'm not Killin or hurting anyone." Mina huffs and stands up. "Because I'm taking you home."

I shoot straight up. Home. I never thought I'd see my family again. "You can get me home ! Oh I can't wait to see my dad again, they'll all be so worried." I babble happily and grin. Then I sit back down due to a flare up of pain from my back.

Mina walks over and sighs sadly. I look up at her. "Hey what's wrong aren't you happy you'll get to see your family no doubt." She smiles sadly and sits beside me. "I have no one left little one." I look at her weirdly and look her over again.

I catch and glimpse of her ears and smile. "You've got elf ears Mina haha care to tell any of Santa's secrets?" I burst into laughter and she does too. A couple of minutes later we go quiet and a sombre dull mood cloaks us.

Mina lifts her head and looks to me in glee. "Do you know if there is a young guy who would come down and check on you maybe even give you little things ?" I nod. The picture of Alan passing through my head. "Who Alan ?" She nods vigorously then starts to mutter to herself. "Yes yes then he can......then we go.....car....drive...problem...hmm"

I crawl over to where Mina is and stand up slowly. She spins and grips my shoulders excitement clear in her eyes. "Lilley kid, we get out tonight !" An excited buzz jolts through my veins and I smile widely. Mina then furrows her brows and spins me round.

"Bastards. First ee need your back looked at. How do you get people down here ?" I shrug. "Okay well do you scream make loads of noise or what ?" I look about the place and walk up the stairs leaning heavily on the rail.

"Watch and learn kid." I smile at her before she smirks. I collapse against the railing and put on a voice. "Oh god help me someone please I can't breathe help it hurts so much please help me !" I also add in rears and a frantic edge to my voice.

I hit the door a couple of times before hearing footsteps coming closer. I then fall to the ground and breathe heavily. I catch Mina gaze and she gives me the thumbs up before running up to me.

"Act worried Mina." I whisper. She nods and leans over me. "Oh god someone help us my friend is seriously injured ! She could die if these cuts get infected !!"

She continues to bang on the door until it jerks open. "What do you want ?" A gruff voice growls. Mina sniffles and I lay still. "My friend she, she needs help please." The guy sighs. "Fine stay here and don't move or you'll regret it."

The guy walks away leaving the door open and min looks down at me in disbelief. "Like really ? Just like that ?" I nod. "Okay kid you know how to drive ?" I shake my head as she helps me up.

"Well I don't either but let's go well get everything else later. Right now we get outta here." We both hear voices from dpen the hall. Wasting no time she grabs my hand as we sprint through a very nice looking house into a garage. A black SUV sits there as Mina opens the door and shoves me in the back seat.

"I'll get us out don't worry." I nod, scared to speak or do anything the reality of me leaving dawning on me. I hear Mina rustle about before whooping in glee and starting the car. The garage door opens and as we reverse three guys burst through the door shouting and pontus guns at us. Mina flips them off as she speeds us away.

I go to sit up until she pushes me back down. "No they only saw me stay down okay ?" I took the time to take in her appearance for the first time in the sun. She had dark brown hair in a very messy style, she had cuts all over her face as well as a burn mark on her neck. Her pointy ears made me giggle a bit which made her smile too.

"What ?" She said her eyes on the road. "Nothing, your ears are just so cool" she smiles and looks back at me. Her face contorts into terror and horror. "Get Down. Now." Bullets shower the car seconds later as Mina picks up speed and I watch in fear as trees and other cars speed past.

Mina breathes deeply and I grip my stomach. "Mina I don't feel good." She looks back at me. " I'm sorry, please forgive me" I sit up still clutching my stomach. "Lilley seat belt now! and I'm so sorry it's the only way."

"Mina what's going on?" Mina looks back at me. "I have to crash. It's the only way to get them off our tail. They'll think we're dead." Tears stream down my face as pictures of my family flash through my head.

I'll never see them again. I look into Mina's eyes and grasp her hand. "I trust you. It was a pleasure Mina." Tears steam down her face too as she jerks the steering wheel sharply causing us and the car to hurtle into the forest.
