"Well, Chace, looks like the day finally came" I announced, walking through his hospital room.

"Yippee," he said sarcastically, staring out the window of his room.

"You get to see your baby" I reminded him.

He nodded slowly. "What about you?"

"What about me?" I raised a brow.

"Will I see you again, Halia?" Chace asked.

"That depends" I smirked, "are you planning on crashing your bike again?"

"No" he laughed, "I was thinking more like going someplace. Like you and me?"

I blinked.

I didn't see it. I should have but I didn't. Dean had convinced me that no man would ever be interested in me again. No matter how much time had past since the last time I heard him speak those words — His voice still played in my head on repeat.

"Oh" I averted my gaze, "listen, Chace, umm I don't know if Daniel has told you anything about me but I...just got out of a serious relationship—"

"Daniel and I don't talk" he admitted, "look just give me one day, just one. And if after that you're not into it, you can run as far away from me as possible and you'll never have to see my face ever again"

I nodded slowly.

"Fine" I agreed.

"How's today?"

"T-today?" I stuttered.

"What time do you finish?" Chace smiled.

"A couple of hours—"

"Perfect"

"You're persistent" I laughed, "so What do you wanna do today?" I asked him.

"Ice skating"

"I can't skate" I admitted.

"Well, I guess that I'd just have to teach you than" he grinned.

And he did. We had fun but after that night, I knew that I wasn't ready for any of it.

"Well?" We stood on the sidewalk.

"Look Chace" I started slowly.

Suddenly someone beeped their car horn from a few feet away. We both snapped our heads to our side to find a woman in her car parked beside us.

"One minute," he told her.

The blond woman sat behind the wheel, I then noticed the baby in the back seat.

"Whose that?" I blinked.

"My sister and daughter" Chace admitted, "I'm suspended from driving so she's my ride"

I nodded, looking at the baby. She would have been the same age as my daughter.

"Have you found a way to keep her?" I asked.

He shook his head.

"We're staying with Sarah for the time being. But I don't know what's going to happen. No one wants to give custody to an ex-con" Chace explained.

It all came back when I met the gaze of that baby. I should have had a child. I carried her for so long, I should have been allowed to meet her.

"Thanks for today," I said, "I'll see you around" and with that, I left his sight.

I jumped into my car, pressing my head against the stirring wheel. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I remembered my baby.

When my phone buzzed, I found Darcy's name across the screen.
