7 months before the airport scene...

Emily

Emily walked into The Brew, the smell of coffee and old wood immediately taking over her senses. She smiled and took a deep breath, inhaling the familiar smell of the cafe. She turned towards the cashier and smiled brightly.

"Hello, Aria!" She beamed and propped her elbows on the counter.

"Hi, Em." The short hazel-eyed girl greeted and smiled at Emily.

"So, how's work going so far?" Emily asked, looking around the place. When she noticed the new big painting behind Aria, her eyes almost bulged out of their sockets. "Is that Ali's painting?"

Aria turned around and squinted her eyes at the corner of the painting. Seeing A.D. imprinted on the painting, Aria nodded. "Yeah. They brought it in here yesterday."

"Wow." Emily breathed out as she admired the painting. It was a sketch of a girl sitting on the edge of a cliff. The girl was looking up to the sky, to the stars. The details were well done, and Emily was quite impressed. She knew that Alison was an artist, but she never knew she can draw this good.

"Yeah, well, I gotta get back to work." Aria said, after her boss called her name. "Uh, you can sit on one of the seats if you want." She went back in the kitchen while Emily stayed at her spot, still admiring the art.

"Beautiful, huh?" Startled, Emily turned her head towards the girl beside her.

"Ali?"

The blonde girl took a sip of her hot chocolate and smirked at the brunette. "We need to stop bumping into each other like this."

"How long have you been here?" Emily asked, quite surprised that a rich girl like Alison would ever go to a small cafe like The Brew. But that rich girl thing applied to Emily also.. she just doesn't see herself like that selfish spoiled brat though.

"Uh, since 6 am." Alison said and made eye contact with the brunette for the first time. Emily noticed how Alison's blue irises shone like aquamarine jewels against the ray of sunlight that peeked through the big windows. "I go here every Saturday morning, like you, but it seems like this is the first time I actually approached you."

"What? Were you too shy?" Emily teased, a glint of playfulness shining on her eyes.

"What? No!" Ali laughed and took one final gulp from her hot chocolate before she dumped it in the garbage. "Anyways, I also came to ask you if you'd like to go find Chris with me."

"Who's Chris?" asked Emily.

"Chris is Ms Jauregui's brother. She called me this morning asking if she knew where her brother was and that he has been missing since last night." stated Alison as she shoved her hands in her pocket. Oh, Emily thought. Him.

"And what'd you say?"

"I said, I'd help her look for Chris."

"What? Are you planning to be the next Mother Teresa?" Emily exclaimed and crossed her arms. Alison briefly glared at the brunette before she rolled her eyes.

"Chris is my best friend, and the Jaureguis are a good friend of my family, so why not?" The blonde girl reasoned. Emily just nodded and smiled.

"Fine, I'll come and help you look for that douche–"

"Watch your mouth, Em, or else they'd end up being pressed against mine." Alison hissed.

"Whatever, let's go."

"Why are we in a box?" Emily asked the blonde girl, who was pressed tightly against her side. It was hard to ignore the fact that Alison's big round breasts were pressing against her arm. If Emily was a guy, she would totally be having a boner right now.

"We're not in a box, Em, we're in a closet."

"Same thing." Emily huffed and made herself comfortable when she just sat down on the ground. She looked up, which was a huge mistake since Alison was only wearing dress.

Is she wearing a thong? She thought, tilting her head to the side to get a closer look.

"Eyes downwards, Fields." She heard Alison say but Emily could hear the smirk from her voice, making her blush and look down to her fingers.

"He's coming." Alison whispered.

"Who?" Emily asked, making Alison kick her side. "Ow!" She whispered, realizing she had said that too loud.

Emily closed her eyes after a while and began to fall asleep, but she jolted awake when Alison started shaking her. "Wake up, babygirl!" She whisper-yelled. "We didn't come here to sleep, we came here to look for something, and we're gonna find him, kay?"

"You're assuring me that we're gonna find him? Me who doesn't give a shit about that fuckboy?" Emily groaned and stood up. The blonde girl ignored her as she stepped out of the closet and beckoned Emily to follow. Emily didn't have any other choice but to follow the girl's orders.

They roamed around the dark house, the blonde girl frantically searching for something she hasn't told Emily the name of. Emily just trailed behind her, not sure what to do. When Alison suddenly stopped and turned around, Emily snapped out of her thoughts and looked up, scanning the shorter girl's face.

"What, Ali?" She uttered softly.

"I, uh, just got a text from Mrs. Jauregui." Ali spoke quietly. Emily's eyes darted down to Alison's hands, which were clutching her phone. "Em, Chris is dead. Th-They found him in the basement."

"W-What?" Emily stuttered, eyes almost bulging out their sockets. "How can that be? I-I saw him with his buddies outside of scho–" She stopped her rambling when Ali started sobbing. "Aw, don't cry." She hummed and took Alison into a warm embrace.

She rubbed the other girl's back soothingly, whispering comforting words into Ali's ear. "It's going to be okay." She assured. "You're going to be okay.. I'm here, and I always will be."

"So, that's what happened?" Carolyn asked as she put on her branded sunglasses. Emily nodded her head and gulped. "Ugh, sucks you had to waste your time there."

"That's not what sucked, Carr," Emily pointed out, giving her little sister a hard look. "What sucked was that he died."

Carolyn just rolled her eyes and started walking. With a sigh, Emily walked beside her. "Who cares? Nobody liked him anyways." She muttered quietly, but Emily heard it.

"Oh, God, you bratty little bitch." Emily roared and turned towards the shorter girl, glaring at her. "What's gotten into you, huh? Sure, we didn't like him, but give him a break. He's dead. Rest in peace."

"I don't care." Carolyn snapped and Emily just watched as she walked away.

Odd, Emily thought.
