After Chris' funeral, the two girls went outside of the funeral house and sat on a big rock in the forest.

"Why are we here?" Emily questioned the blonde girl hurriedly, looking around cautiously.

"To take a break." Ali said and tugged on Emily's hand, that she was holding gently. "Come sit."

Emily seemed hesitant at first but she ended up sitting beside Ali on the rock anyways. The blue-eyed girl rested her head on Emily's shoulder. When Emily looked down, Ali's eyes were closed and she was humming a song.

"What song are you humming?"

Alison sat up and Emily watched as the blonde girl's eyes narrow in the distance. "A song that Chris loved."

"I didn't know Chris was really that important to you." Emily said quietly as Ali chuckled, almost bitterly.

"So did I." She said and turned to Emily, raising an eyebrow. "We don't really realize that until they're gone." (Foreshadowing 🙊)

Emily opened her mouth to say something but Alison already beat her to it. "Come on, let's get to the van. Mr. Pearson might get worried."

"Okay." Emily squeaked out and followed the other girl through the woods.

Through the days, Emily has noticed that Ali had grown distant and that she barely spoke anymore. She didn't make that much jokes anymore. She also didn't talk about her feelings to Emily, which she always used to do. And her persuasion came into a tragic halt.

She didn't recieve flowers anymore, only from secret admirers.

And nobody left her pieces of paper that had poems written on them, like Ali did.

She missed Ali.

a day before the airport scene...

//3 months later//

"Catch!"

Emily jumped and caught the ball. Her eyes darted into different directions, reading the opposing team's faces, trying to figure out what they're planning. A blonde girl across the room, sent the red head in front of Emily a look, and Emily immediately understood, so she quickly dodged the red head and started running to the net.

When she was close enough, dodging a few more people, she did a slam dunk. Everyone bursted into cheers, even the people from the other team. People high-fived Emily as the brunette sent them smiles. Her brown eyes searched for a certain blonde from the crowd, but she couldn't find her.

Whatever, she thought.

She hadn't talked to Ali since last week, when Alison had told her that she was gonna let her go. The blonde girl had told Emily that she wanted to stop loving someone who will never love her back. The brunette was frozen, her mouth wouldn't open and her words were stuck in her throat. When a tear fell from Ali's blue eyes, she wanted to reach out and wipe it off, but the blonde-haired girl had already turned around and walked away.

I will miss you, Emily thought and looked down to the necklace in her hand. It was the necklace Ali had given her back in 7th grade. It was supposedly a promise. But you promised, She hissed. You said you would love me forever! What happened to that?

She kicked the lockers frustratedly and looked at herself at the mirror in her locker. Sighing, Emily quickly shoved the necklace back in the box and slammed her locker shut, when she heard someone's footsteps.

"Em,"

Emily turned around, startled, upon hearing her ex-bestfriend's voice. There stood in front of her, Hanna Marin. The blonde girl had changed over the 5 months they were apart. Hanna wasn't wearing her usual expensive clothing, except now she was just wearing an oversized sweatshirt and a pair of sweats.

"What do you want?" Emily hissed, crossing her arms.

"I just want to talk."

"Oh, now you want to talk?" The brunette snapped and began walking away but stopped when Hanna held her wrist, turning her back around.

"Please. It'll be quick." Her big round blue eyes sparkled, and Emily looked away. She pressed her lips together and nodded, still avoiding eye contact, not wanting to look into the eyes that used to give her such warmth.

"Fine. Make it quick."

"Ali wanted me to give this to you." Emily looked down as Hanna handed her a pink envelope. "Look, Em, I actuall really liked you. Very much. I had hella feelings for you, but I knew Alison's feelings for you too. And they were much more stronger. That girl is in love with you, Em. She's a nice girl. She might not be good with commitments, but that was only because she's in love with you and she can't be in love with you and be with someone else."

"Why are you telling me this?" Emily asked, after a moment of silence.

"Open it." Hanna said, nudging her head towards the envelope on Emily's hands.

Looking down to the envelope, Emily's hands shook. She was nervous and she wasn't sure wether it was because she was touching something Ali had touched or because Hanna was in front of her.

"I– okay." She stuttered and opened the envelope. She took out the letter and read it.

Dear Emily,

If Hanna actually gave you this, then bless her. Well, I actually wanted to write this note because I wanted to say that I love you. I always will, but I have to let go of you, Em.

I know what you're thinking. I know that I promised you. But I'm not really breaking my promise because, like I said, I will always love you. But I have to get over you. I don't really think it's possible, but I have to try. For your sake. I love you, and I don't want you to feel like I'm being really clingy.

I am not clingy.

Anyways, I sent this note, to say goodbye. I will be leaving and I will fly to Paris. To Paris, where I once asked you to run away with me to. Paris is very special to me. I would ask if you want to run away with me right now, and run away forever, but I know you wouldn't want that.

I'll just say that I'm leaving tomorrow and I love you.

Emily's vision started to get blurry as her eyes brimmed with tears. She closed her eyes as the tears streamed down her face. She didn't want Alison to leave. She wanted her to stay. To stay with her, but it was too late.

"It's not too late, Em." Hanna suddenly said. Emily looked up, her eyes glossy. "She wrote this yesterday, and the tomorrow she's referring to is today and the flight is leaving at 7pm." The blonde girl quickly looked down to her watch and smiled. "We still have 4 hours. The airport's not that far away."

When Emily didn't move, and just stared blankly at Hanna, the blonde girl laughed and wiped Emily's tears. "Stop crying, love. Let's go get Ali."
