The Fitzgerald house had never been so quiet, at least that wasn't how Nova remembered it. The shiny, black piano in the dining room was untouched, no one had played it since Nova got sent away to boarding school. Not much had changed, though. It looked exactly like it had the last time she had been there, but it didn't really feel normal. It didn't smell of the weird and expensive food her mother liked to make, and it was completely quiet when mrs. Fitzgerald and Nova entered the house. No music emerging from Jake's room, no yelling from her father's office, and her mother hadn't even scolded her once.

Well, it was quiet until Jake ran into the living room, where Nova and mrs. Fitzgerald had stopped to place her bags since most of the clothes inside hadn't been washed. He didn't stop moving until he had his arms around his sister. She slowly put her arms around him, making a noise in acknowledgement when their mother said that she was goinhg to order food, which was strange because they never ordered food.

"Mouth breather," Nova said, making Jake snort. She just smiled and stepped back from the hug, almost tripping over one of the bags in the process. "I missed you."

"We all miss the Jake sometimes," he said, to which she slapped his stomach. Jake studied her face for a few seconds, suddenly looking angry. "They got you quite bad."

"It doesn't matter," Nova said and shrugged. "I'm in Lakewood now, and everything will be okay. Probably."

next chapter will hopefully be great to make up for this shit
