Alex’s POV
She won’t wake up. Vaila’s pale skin seemed to have grown paler than before and her black hair was knotted and soaked in blood, her blood. I could still see the fear in her beautiful dark hazel eyes, when the truck hit her side of the car. That could be the last time I ever saw her, in fear and pain. It was easy to see I was falling for her and I’ll never be able to tell her that. I have Lisa but she still thinks that we’ll get married and grow old together, never having feelings for anyone else but each other. She’s wrong, if I could have Vaila to myself then I’d make Lisa a distant memory but that’ll never happen.
She likes Jack.
You could see her feelings for Jack getting stronger by the minute and her hearts going to get broken. Jack can’t hold a relationship; he never has been able to since she destroyed his feelings and left his broken heart to bleed. The vague memories of my childhood with Jack came back to me, we were in high school and I had been going out with Lisa for about a month. We’re high school sweethearts but that wasn’t the case for Jack, he had fallen for the girl that was completely out of his league, Kenna, she was a rocker at heart but when it comes to talent, she was born a journalist. Every time she walked down the corridors in school, Jack would stare at her as if it was his job. He was love struck and his heart was set on her but all she did was set him up.
We were young and he thought that they had everything in common; he didn’t share a single interest with her. She was two years older than him. Her green eyes were always staring at her shoes; she never paid much attention to the world and what’s going on around her. She wasn’t Jack’s type but he was so head over heels ‘in love’ with her that we all just thought it was for the best. The thought of keeping him grounded was more important to us but if a girl does the job then we would have more time to spend with our girlfriends. Lisa couldn’t complain about that.
Jack walked ahead of me, his hands shaking as a nervous atmosphere clouded round him. The bell had rung, the end of the day had finally come and Kenna was sitting on a bench at the end of the car park with her headphones on, her head bobbed to the sound of rock music blasting loud enough for other people to hear. A dark green hood covered her face as she fidgeted with her nails, waiting for her lift to pick her up. Hordes of teenagers rushed passed her and straight out of the white wrought iron front gates of the school.
“Do you still think I should do this, I mean…I don’t want, um, help me!” Jack had turned around to me, Rian and Zack, his back up, his allies. If we did something wrong we had to correct it, that was the deal.
“Yeah man, just go up to her, tap her shoulder and tell her who you are. Talk to her about stuff, ask her about her day then drop the bomb and tell her that you want to hang out this weekend. Simple as that,” my laid back approach to things was how I got Lisa to like me so why shouldn’t it work for Jack.
“Sure?”Jack was still meters away from Kenna and his trembling hands were only shaking more furiously than before while his breath kept catching every few seconds
“You’ll be fine, just be yourself.”
“Yeah just show her who you really are,” Rian chipped in. “Then she’ll realise what she’s been missing over the last, what, two weeks?” Jack’s nerves were overpowered by a faint laugh as a goofy smile spread across his face. He slid his clammy hands into his skin-tight jeans pocket and turned back to Kenna.
The fear in Jack’s eyes had started to fade away and a more casual Jack stepped towards Kenna. His breathing was under control; every step he took made him look more and more in love. He was being drawn to her now and the nervousness was lost in the past.
