Chapter 18: The Murder Of One

"Alaric Saltzman killed my father?" My best friend spoke. I gave her a sad look.

"I can't expect you to be okay with this. But at least these herbs Bonnie's giving him, they're healing him and they're keeping the dark side buried." I explained to her. She turned around sharply.

"Yeah. And that's suppose to make everything okay?" She countered.

"No, Care, it's not okay. It's horrible. And I feel horrible about it, but.... He's a victim of something supernatural. He didn't ask for this. It just happened to him. Just like Bonnie's mom. I mean, she didn't ask to become a vampire. And..... neither did Stefan, or Tyler-"

"Or us." The perky blonde finished. I nodded.

"Or us. None of us asked for this. But who would Elena be if she just turned her back on any of us?" I mentioned. She walked beside me and intertwined our arms.

"Oh, Arielle Gilbert. Savior of the cursed and the damned." My best friend blurted. I smile and laugh. My sister and Matt appeared in front of us.

"Hey. What's with the, uh, cryptic secret meeting text?" He questioned.

"I don't know. Stefan just said to meet him here." I answered.

Stefan and Damon come from behind us.

"Where's Bonnie? Texted her too." Stefan broadcasted.

"Bonnie's mom bailed on her. Again. So I think we should leave her out of this one." Care mentioned.

"What are we doing here?" Matt asked.

"We found some more white oak. Long story. Wait for the movie." Damon answered. I looked at him.

"Hang on. You have a weapon that can kill Klaus?" My sister piped in.

"Nope. We all have a weapon." Stefan corrected throwing a bag full of stakes at our feet. Len threw a surprised glare and I smirked.

"Klaus has always been one step ahead of us. But now we have the advantage. We're all armed, and they are all linked. Meaning we only need to kill one of them. We need to seize the best opportunity, which means we need to prepare for every opportunity." Stefan explained.

"Scenario number one," Damon began, grabbing Lena's arm. "-You are to play Klaus."

"Okay." She said unsure.

"Rebekah is our target. So we'll distract her and catch her off guard. To do that, we need to keep Klaus separated and occupied. Arielle?" Stefan mentioned. I rolled my eyes and crossed my eyes.

"Why the hell do I have to be Klaus bait?" I complained. Not to sound whiney, but I wanted any position other than this one.

"You know why.."Stefan trailed, winking. I growled lowly.

"Because he's obsessed with you. But for right now, we need you to play Rebekah. We'll use the quarterback to distract her. Just keep her talking." Damon finished.

"How?" Matty questioned,

"Act interested. She's lonely. Desperate." Damon responds.

"Clearly she slept with you." Care blurted. Lena laughed. I smacked her arm and gave her a look.

"Hey, ease up. I did too." I reminded her. She mouthed 'sorry' and Damon proceeded with the plan.
