I can still see it in my mind. The day he broke my trust. The day he crossed a line and went into uncharted territory. A place I had never been before when I was forced to make a decision. I told. I told the police and they took care of things. They helped me to get a restraining order. It was like they just expected me to get on with my life. But I couldn't.

I rubbed my eyes wearily. It was sweltering out and I was sweating through my clothes. I sat at the desk thinking as my boyfriend came home. He walked in and threw the keys on the table.

"Hey babe I'm back, sorry for leaving you here by yourself. " Charlie said as he leaned down to kiss my forehead. I smiled without really meaning it. He looked at me strangely. "Rory why are you wearing jeans and a t-shirt?" He asked me. "It's a million degrees outside. If I were you I would be like skinny dipping in an ice bath." He smiled and stretched, his muscular arms flexing as he did it.

I walked to the front door and got my shoes on. "I'm going for a walk." I called out to Charlie. I didn't hear his response and I closed the door. I walked down the street to the beach. It was beautiful and empty, no one their except for me. I sat down in the sand and enjoyed the feeling of the wind whipping my hair and the sand in my toes. My phone buzzed. It was a text from Karen, my best friend.

Joe is in your town!

Joe. The only thing she ever talked about. Joe Sugg this, Joe Sugg that. You'd think at 22 she would stop obsessing over celebrities. Whenever I told her this she always said the same thing. That he was two years older which isn't that much of an age difference and how they were going to have kids and get married. I didn't want to crush her dreams so I just listened to her talk about him without looking him up myself.

I got up reluctantly. I couldn't stay on the beach forever. I had to go home and eat dinner. I walked home slowly and went inside. Charlie was at the stove cooking something.

"I made pasta!" He said with a grin on his face. Charlie was the perfect guy. Just not for me.

"I'm really tired actually Charlie." I said and instantly felt bad as his grin faded. I couldn't keep putting him through this. I made up my mind of the spot, before things got serious I had to end things.

"Charlie I think we should break up." I said tentatively, scared of his reaction. "I can't be with anyone right now I'm sorry."

"I know." He said and he folded me in his arms into a hug. I hugged him really quickly and looked up at his face. "But I'm here if you need me." He said. I smiled at him. "I'm really sorry about..." My voice trailed off.

"It's fine Rory, I know how hard it is for you." He said and put on a smile.

I grabbed my overnight bag and prepared to head home. "Thanks Charlie." I told him.

Charlie nodded and closed the door closed behind me. I got in my car and started it, feeling much more free. I drove home slowly  and pulled up to my house. As I was unloading my car a man walked by and I jumped.

It's fine Rory get a grip on yourself. I told myself sternly. The guy looked at me strangely and kept walking. I shut the trunk of my car and went inside. I quickly shut the door and locked it. I didn't bother changing and just crawled into my bed fully clothed and fell asleep.
