Chapter One

California. The summers are hot, the guys are hotter, but the best part? Callie's brothers were gone. California Summers, yeah, she knows, was an outrageously kind person, so much so she let everyone walk all over her. School starts back up in a couple days and Callie is dreading it. Her summer had been great and for the past three weeks Callie's brothers had gone on a cruise. Something about brotherly bonding.
Mornings were great, she could sleep in, there were no fights about who got to use the bathroom first, and no annoying brothers wrecking her things. The only responsibility she had was her dog, a golden retriever, Bentley.
That lovely Monday morning at five AM, Callie woke up to the sweet sound of yelling and the even sweeter smell of body odor.
Her brothers were back.
"Callie! We're back, come down," one of her brothers, Tristan yelled.
See, Callie had four older brothers. Their parents were killed in a car accident when her oldest brother Trent was nineteen. He fought day and night to keep custody of them. Callie is pretty sure they only granted him custody because they didn't want to split up their family, and no foster parents wanted five kids.
Trent, Tristan, Jayden and Cole, in that order.
The oldest reigning at twenty six was Trent, and while they were eight years apart, Callie and Trent had a relationship so strong nothing could break it.
Tristan was second at twenty four, the class clown of their family. He could turn anything into a joke and make you laugh about it.
Jay and Cole were next at twenty years old, the troublesome twins. Although they were incredibly close they couldn't be two more different people. Jay, being six minutes older, was brooding and shy at first. No one went out of their way to befriend him. On the other hand, Cole was bubbly and outgoing, making most of their joint friends by himself.
They had lived in Cali all their lives not knowing any different. They live in the house their parents had paid off, for financial reasons.
"Guys!" Callie shouted, running down the stairs into the awaiting arms of her brothers. Bentley shot up from his sleep at the commotion and started wagging his tail excitedly.
As much as she hated the Monday morning mayhem her brothers caused, she had truly missed them.
"You didn't burn the house down, well done kiddo," Trent said, making her scowl at him.
"I can cook properly now! I'm eighteen," she hissed, crossing her arms.
"Did you take good care of my boy?" Tristan asked, referring to Bentley.
"You mean my dog right?"
He looked at her sheepishly, "Yeah, right."
"I'll let you guys get settled in, but then we're watching a movie," she said, walking up the stairs excitedly.
Shit, she thought, I forgot my phone.
She crept back down the stairs but stopped when she heard her brothers hushed whispers, talking seriously.
"We need to tell her eventually, we can't just spring this on her at the last minute," Trent said quietly.
"I know, but who knows how she's gonna react. I think we should ease her into it." Tristan spoke.
"Ripping off a bandaid hurts less than peeling it slowly," Jay told them.
What hadn't they told her? She thought.
