|Chapter Eleven: Selena POV|
Come Saturday, I said goodbye to Demi's family. Of course,as expected, I didn't leave without saying thank you a couple of hundred times.
It was merely six in the afternoon when I arrived to the empty apartment barely furnished. It was really decent and spacious, not extravagantly lavish, but not run down and infested.
Twelfth floor, apartment 367B, perfect view of the restless city.
"Why didn't you keep the furniture?" Demi, who was going to accompany me tonight, asked. She followed behind me switching on the lights.
"Since I'm going to be spending so much time alone here, I figured I might as well pick furniture I like." I pressed my lips together in a straight line. I expected her to ramble on about my loneliness again, but was surprised with her silent nod.
"Your dad hasn't frozen your accounts?" She questioned as she made her way to the kitchen to set some groceries I bought on the counter.
"Not yet, I think, but I haven't touched a penny of his money, so I couldn't be sure. I have a separate account from the summers I worked for Aunt Mary.I'll get by for a couple of months. If it comes down that, eventually I will probably need to use it." I explain.
I worked five summers with my Aunt Mary at her store. She paid well, plus the tips I'd receive were very generous. That money was suppose to be just in case if my dad didn't want to get me something.
Being always a frugile spender, I just ended up saving any money I received that wasn't from my parents.
"Why don't you work with Mary?" Demi said taking a fruit roll-up from a grocery bag.
"She'd fill my mom in on everything. You know how she is. We'll have a talk, and if she's concerned she'll tell mom." I say, thinking it's the most obvious thing in the world.
"So? What's the problem there? Its not like she can get you in trouble." Demi smirked.
"No, on the contrary. She gets me out of it! Do you know how many times I was kicked out of my own house? I didn't have anybody, not even you guys, when I had that problem. Guess how I ended up back home? Bingo! Aunt Mary." I informed her
"So what happened? Did you get into trouble?" Demi asked, curiosity sketched across her face.
There are things even your best friends don't know. The drinking problem I had was one of the secrets I always held back from them. Until I could no longer hide the fact that I'd been lying to them.
"She eventually told to me to pack my bags and get my act together. She was the only reason why I'm sober, where was I going to go? Can you imagine me asking for a raise? She'd have me in my old bedroom by that afternoon." I babbled.
"Selena, If we would've known you were going through that we would've helped you,we told you already. Just like we're trying to do now, but do you really want to disappear from your family? Think about it. Mary pays well and she'll fill them in without you having to talk to them." She reasoned with me.
"That's not the point, it's not that I don't want to talk to them.-"
"Than what was the point of you leaving the house? What's the point of all of this-" she referenced to the apartment.
"Tell me,Selena, do you really want your family seperated? Regardless of everything, your parents did raise you, they did a good job, too. But everything isn't perfect, you made a few mistakes. Though your baby is after all apart of this family. You can't keep them away from their grandchild, too. Were you not sufficient?" She lectured.
