"Good morning, Mother," he greeted gently as he took a seat at the large table.

His exhausted mother gave him what could only be seen as a sad, worn out smile. "Good morning, Tobias. Did you sleep well?" She had not slept all, like most of the nights since her husband's passing, but she strived to be happy for her only son.

"I did, thank you," he said. His breakfast was placed in front of him and he thanked the servant too. He didn't want his mom to be disappointed in him. "I will do the paperwork today, I don't mind really. You should enjoy your day, please," he pleaded. He wanted to see his mom be happy and relaxed. As much as he despised the idea, he'd wished that she would have a second Desire, but fate was not always merciful.

Just as the queen opened her mouth to speak, a guard rushed through the door without knocking which was odd. He bowed, stumbling, waiting to be addressed, "Your Majesty there is a lady here, she's harmless, but she's hurt, badly and won't let anybody near her."

Him and his mother jump up and allow the guard to walk them to one of the place's entryways. A girl lay huddled in the corner, covered in wounds and shivering, her tail wound around her body to protect her. She looked up when there were footsteps, meeting the eye of Tobias.

He rushed towards her with panic, sinking to her level. He would help her, not because he was the prince, but because this was his Desire.
