Shipwrecked (Choose Your Own Adventure)

Fifteen

You snatch the mirror back from Paul and start preparing your plan of action. The other lads watch you with interest.

"What are you making?" Ringo asks, squatting down beside you.

"I'm going to us the mirror's light refraction to attract a passing plane," you explain.

"Just be careful!" Paul says worriedly. "Betty is my favourite mirror!"

"You're a hopeless case, McCartney," John says, rolling his eyes.

George doesn't say anything. He found a half-eaten chocolate bar in his pocket and is tucking in enthusiastically.

"Right," you say, positioning the mirror precariously on a pile of stones. "This should do it."

"Now what?" Ringo says.

"We wait for the sun to signal a plane," you say.

Ringo glances up at the sky, his eyes squinted. "I don't see any pl -"

He suddenly steps forward midsentence, knocks the pile of stones, and sends the mirror crashing onto the ground. You gasp. Paul shrieks. Ringo goes pale. John says "Ooh, Richie's gonna get his butt ripped!".

Luckily, the mirror is still mostly in tact.

Unluckily, there's a small crack running the length of the glass.

"RINGO!" everyone screams in unison.

"Sorry!" Ringo says, practically in tears. "I didn't mean to!"

"Yeah, but now you've jinxed us!" John says. "You broke a mirror, which entitles you to seven years bad luck."

"Oh, what bull honky!" you say dismissively. "We're not jinxed!"

"Then why aren't there any planes coming to rescue us?" John retorts.

"They'll be along soon. I'm sure there will be a plane flying overhead shortly."

And you're right. There is a plane flying overhead. Only it's not really flying... it actually looks like it's plummeting down to earth. Smoke is spewing out of its right engine and it seems to be spinning out of control.

You and the lads scatter in a panicked frenzy, desperate to get out of the way.

Only you're too slow and the plane crashes onto the island and, unfortunately, directly on top of you.

The last thing you hear is John gutting and saying, "I told you we were jinxed!"

You die.
