Emma left town for her grandmother's funeral. Maggie and I would have gone too, but we had to stay for school. Emma was excused, so she was fine.

While everyone else was getting excited for the Valentine's banquet, Maggie and I were sulking. Our best friend wasn't here and her relative passed away. We were in no mood to celebrate with lovers, if we even had any.

So instead of going to the mall and trying to find a cute dress like we normally would, we had a sleepover at my house to try to cheer up and think of ways we could help Emma. There was no way we would have a good time without her.

Emma was supposed to come back about a week after she left. Her grandmother lived in Texas, so the funeral would be held there.

For now, we were eating a bucket of ice cream and watching sad movies.  Maggie sniffled and blew her nose. My eyes were glued to the TV.

I wondered how Emma was doing. She must be having a hard time.

We finished the film and decided to turn in for the night. We were painfully aware of our missing friend.

"Night, Mag," I mumbled.

"Night Nic. Night Em." Maggie groaned. "Oops. Ugh. I keep forgetting that she isn't here."

"Yeah."

I looked at my clock. It was almost twelve. I yawned and snuggled into the bed. My eyes drooped and I was off to dreamland.

Emma waved at Maggie and me. She had a bright smile on her face and she looked so happy.

"Emma!" I called, waving back.

"Bye, Nicole! Bye Maggie!" Emma yelled.

I frowned. "Emma? What do you mean?"

"Bye!" She kept saying. "Bye!"

"Emma! Where are you going?" I called.

I looked to my side. Maggie was expressionless. I nudged her.

"Maggie!" I shook her shoulder. "What's wrong? Wake up! What's wrong with Emma?"

"Emma's gone," Maggie said in a monotone. "She's gone."

"What are you talking about?" I demanded. "Tell me!"

"Bye Emma," Maggie said in the same voice.

All of a sudden, we were at my old house. For some reason, the Big Five were there.

"Nicole!" Joey called. "Let's go!"

"Where?"

"We have to go," Alex said. "Come on."

I followed them out, but they were too fast. I lost them. I was lost in the woods all by myself.

"Hello?" I called. "Anyone there?"

I jerked awake. I hated my dreams. They were so weird and confusing. Everything was so strange. Maggie was still asleep next to me. I groaned and reached over for my phone.

3:14 AM. Wow. Really?

I groaned and tried to go back to sleep. Nope. Not happening.

Great. I sat up and leaned against the headboard. Grabbing my phone, I decided to play with it for a while. I went on Tumblr and checked out some deep quotes.

That's it. I needed some inspirational quotes. I quietly slid off my bed and went to my desk. After turning on the desk lamp, I bent down and searched my drawer until I finally found my notebook.
