“Are you coming or not,” taunted Christian as he headed into the darkness of the forest behind his house.
I shuddered and followed closely behind him, not daring to get lost in the middle of the forest. The sun was beautifully setting, which meant that it was going to get dark soon, meaning I wont know where I am going—not like I know where I am going in the first place.
“I-I guess so,” I mumbled out as I picked up my pace so that I was directly behind him. We walked in silence for a while; only the sounds of nature slowly going to sleep were to be heard.
I took a deep breath and my nose suddenly picked up on a nice scent. At first I thought it was some kind of tree or flower that we pasted, but I soon figured out that it was the cologne of the boy in front of me.
I blushed madly and shook my head, trying desperately to stop thinking of things about Christian in that way. He was my friend—not even my friend, I met him yesterday and talked to him for a few hours.
“We are almost there,” he said as he pushed a tree branch out of his way. Holding the branch for me, I walked past him and pass the branch he held for me. Smiling in thanks, I continued walking on until my foot got caught on something.
I was nearly going to fall on my face until I felt a familiar pair of arms wrap around my body to keep me from falling. My breath was caught in my throat as Christian slowly placed me back on my feet, chuckling as he did so.
“You aren’t so graceful, now are you?” he said as he smiled down at me.
The smell of his cologne was filling my nose and his smile was blinding my eyes. I couldn’t take this.
I stood up and removed his arms from me. Grimacing, I motioned with my hands for him to lead the way to wherever we were going.
Furrowing his eyebrows, he continued walking on. The rest of the walk there was extremely quiet and awkward. I mainly tried to keep my mind off of what strange emotion that was running through me. I couldn’t describe it because I had never experienced this unknown feeling before.
I decided to play with my hair—a habit I have when I’m bored. I quickly braided my bangs and tied it into the back of my hair, where I put it into a cute bun.
“We are here.” Christian stated as he pointed to a cute wooden barn.
It was a very old looking barn, which was made out of wood. The barn was painted a bright red, and showed off the old details in white. The pillars were magnificent, holding up the ancient piece of architecture with pride and dignity. The roof was a beautiful copper color, which looked to be beat up and worn down, probably from all the weather it had experienced. To the left of the barn was a white picket fence area with bright green grass and breathtaking natural flowers.
“It is absolutely beautiful,” I gasped as I took it all in at once. There was so much to look at and with the sun setting; it looked like it was set for a romantic movie scene.
Christian chuckled and grabbed my elbow, leading me towards the fenced off area. I was in such awe; I didn’t even notice that someone else joined us.
I screamed as I felt something furry rub up against my arm. Christian started dying laughing as I realized that it was a horse.
“My gosh! I almost had a heart attack!” I shrieked as I playfully smacked him in the arm. “I thought I was being attacked by a bear!”
Christian continued to laugh as he pet the horse. “There aren’t any bears out here, Hallie.” He stated as his laughter slowly ceased.
I smiled and looked at the beautiful horse. The horse had a natural chestnut color tint to him, sporting a white birthmark down his nose. His midnight black mane looked like it was taken care of well, being that it was cut and brushed well.
