This will be short. Enjoy!

FYI, they are normal mortals in this story.

Percy reloaded his gun, then peeked over his cover. A bullet flew past him and he ducked behind his cover again.

He still had one grenade left. He struggled to open the pin, and then tossed it towards where the bullets were coming from.

Bang!

Screams of pain rang out from the enemy and Percy winced. He had no right to kill these people. These people had families, loved ones, friends. These people had a life. They were fighting for their nation the same way he was.

It had been three years since he had last seen Annabeth, last seen his home and his parents.

At his left, a soldier- Andrew, Percy remembered- muttered something. "I hate this", Percy realised he had said. He chuckled a bit and then got out from his cover and shot at the few enemies. He could already see reinforcements coming.

This would never end.

After a year

"Mom?".

"Yes, Finn?".

"Do I have a father?".

Annabeth Jackson's eyes watered. She picked her three-year old son from where he was standing in front of her and onto her lap.

"You have a father, sweetheart. Everyone has", she told him. Finn frowned. "Then where is he?".

She smiled at her blond-haired boy. "He is very busy. He's really brave-just like you- and is fighting for his country. He'll be back soon. You don't need to worry", she assured the innocent boy. "What is his name?".

Annabeth's voice cracked as she said his name, "Percy Jackson". She put him down. "Go brush your teeth and put on your night clothes. It's time for you to sleep". Finn nodded and grinned, showing his teeth. Then he ran to his room.

She sighed. Her heart ached to see Percy again. It had been four years since he had gone to war. After a year, Finn had been born. He hadn't been even there to select the name for the child. A friend of her, Piper, had given her suggestions and Annabeth had liked the name Finn. Finn Jackson. He had her blond hair and Percy's green eyes.

Finn reminded her of Percy in so many ways. He was handsome, for one. He talked the same way, laughed the same way and acted the same way without realising he was a lot like his father.

She rested her head on the couch cushion and slowly, drifted into sleep.

"Can you hurry, man?", Percy asked the cab driver, who was driving at the max speed.

"If you can pay the fine for me kid, I can", the driver replied in an irritated tone. Percy laughed, feeling so better than he had with guns in his hands.

"I can't wait to see my wife", he admitted. "It's been four years since I've last seen her. Can you believe that?!", he laughed again. The driver looked at him in the rear-view mirror. "You from the army, huh? I guess I can thank ya' for fighting for good 'ol America". Percy sensed grudging respect in his words.

The cab stopped and he shoved a ten dollar bill forward. "Keep the change!". He scrambled out of the it and looked at his house. Annabeth was inside. And probably his kid, too. He was so nervous. If he had a child, how would he greet him. 'Hi! I'm your father and I'm sorry for not being around to know you for almost four years'?

Percy shook his head and started towards the door. He rang the doorbell and waited. No response. He started to panic. Was this the right house? What if-. His thoughts were interrupted by the door opening. There was no one in front of him. Then his gaze landed on the small figure on the ground.

He immediately knew who this was. His son. He could tell that by his blond hair and green eyes. Percy swallowed hard and knelt on one knee. His son looked at him questioningly before he cleared his throat. "Hi!".

"Are you my father?", was the response. Percy nodded slowly. His son's eyes widened and he grinned, before throwing himself on Percy. He laughed as he hugged his little boy back. "Father, father, father", his son kept saying. Finally, Percy pulled back, but kept his son in his arms. "What's your name?", he asked, hoping it didn't sound rude or anything to his son. "Finn. Finn Jackson", his son replied.

"Well Finn, is your mother inside?", Percy asked, ruffling his blond hair. Finn nodded. "She misses you so much. She's sleeping right now. Should be awake by now, though". Right on cue, a voice came from the inside, "Finn?! Who's on the door". Annabeth. He scooped Finn off the floor and walked inside, shutting the door with his foot. On the couch, sitting- still rubbing the sleep out of her eyes- was Annabeth.

She saw him. Her jaw dropped open and her eyes were wide. "P- Percy?", she stammered. "Hey. I...I'm back...", his voice cracked. She stood slowly, as if in a trance. He set Finn on the floor and stared at her. She rushed towards him and she did the same. They kissed and stayed that way for a while.

Annabeth buried her face in his chest and sobbed. He rubbed circles on her back.

"Don't ever go away again! Promise that to me".

"I won't. Promise".
