Percy gave his passport and boarding pass for checking, tapping his foot in impatience. After a while, the woman who had taken it gave it back.
Percy gave her his best smile, satisfied that the young woman blushed, then shuffled down the terminal.
The air hostess and stewarts welcomed him aboard. He walked down the aisle, trying to find his window side seat.
J6, J7, J8 and, aha!, J9.
Unfortunately, the window seat was already taken by a blonde girl. Percy frowned and sat next to her. "I wanted the window side seat", he complained. The girl merely smiled. "You should have come sooner."
The plane was ready for take-off. Messages were sent to put on the seat belt, not use phones, blah blah.
After a while, the plane started to gain speed and ascended. Percy checked the corridor, and when there was no attendants in sight, he opened his phone. He scrolled through the already-loaded images of Instagram. A message came. "If it's one more of those", he muttered, "I'm going to kill the sender.
It was one of 'those'. And by 'those', he meant dating requests. Percy hated those.
"You're not supposed to open that", a voice on his right said. The blonde girl. Her grey eyes were a little intimadiating, but right now, they were amused.
He shrugged. "You see, I'm not really good at following rules. So... Yeah." The girl gave him a wary look, then said, "What 'those' anyway", she made air quotes with her hands when she said 'those'.
"You have good hearing", he informed her. "'Those'", he continued, "are dating requests I get from girls." She gave him a confused look. "I was a popular guy at school. So I get these requests." She nodded.
"I'm Annabeth Chase, by the way.", she said suddenly after a while. "Jackson. Percy Jackson", he said, using the James Bond reference."Nice to meet you."
"Which High-School did you go to, Percy?", Annabeth aksed after a while.
"Michigan High."
"Cool", she replied. "So, if this isn't too much, tell me the story about your high-school life." It seemed like a command rather than a request.
"Well", Percy said hesitantly, "as soon as I entered Michigan High, I was treated like a celebrity. Girls asked me out. I rejected them. I mean, I'm walking one day and suddenly this girl I don't even know comes up to me and asks me out. I give her a polite refusal. It's because I don't know them, but also 'cause they're,like, the queens of the school and think they can control the world. I sucked in studies. I was good in swimming and basketball. After high-school was over, I don't know how or why, I still get requests by unknown people." He gestured to his phone.
Annabeth gave a low whistle. "You know", she said, "you seem pretty good for a guy who was and is popular." Percy grinned at her.
"Oh, I almost forgot to tell you this", he said after a few minutes of silence. "I had a friend named Nico. One day, he told me that he had liked me for a long time. But now, he's over it." Annabeth raised an eyebrow. "You even have boys falling for you? Gee, Percy! That's overkill."
The air hostess came, bringing chicken pies and drinks. Percy and Annabeth ate theirs. It wasn't too tasty, but Percy was hungry.
He finished the last drop of his coffee, and set the cup back with a sigh. There were still five hours to reach Bangkok.
He flipped open his phone and played Colour Switch, a game he enjoyed greatly. After a while, something hit his shoulder.
Percy looked over to see Annabeth's head on shoulder. She was asleep and snoring slightly. He blushed a little. A strand of blonde hair had fallen across her face and he brushed it behind her ear. She looked beautiful. He blushed even more.
