This is a new a new story I wrote. It's kinda different from everything else I wrote but I think you guys will like it. So enjoy xx
The smell of a cigarette being smoked is what wakes me up from a brief period of sleep. I roll over onto my back to stare at the back of my boyfriend Elisha. His oak brown strands have outgrown that undercut he had gotten two months ago causing his bed head to be quite a mess.
"Why are you smoking in my room?" I ask before he turns around.
The burgundy lipstick stains on his tawny skin really makes the golden tinge underneath it pop. Eli's long fingers scratch at his collarbone before he inhales all of the toxins in the cigarette.
His hazel eyes glint at me before he bites down on his teeth, making his chiseled jaw clench and I can see that his choice of words will not be ones that I don't want to hear.
"I needed a smoke," Eli's husky voice speaks up, causing me to roll my eyes at the weak response. "Is that a good enough answer?"
"I told you that you can't smoke in my room or this house for that matter, Nadine has asthma but yet you don't care."
"Fuck I forgot."
There is a brief flicker of regret that floods over his face before he quickly flicks the cigarette on the wooden floor and steps on it before realizing that that probably wasn't the best way to put out the cigarette.
The two of us stare at the ash on the floor before he begins to speak again.
"Did last night solve anything?"
I look away from the floor to my alarm clock.
5:27
"It never does."
"Is it just lust now? Are we not in love anymore?" Eli asks before I look at him.
"What does it feel like for you?"
"It feels like I'm speaking, sleeping and eating with a ghost."
I can feel my eyebrows burrow on my face before I watch him stand up and pull a cream colored hoodie over his head.
I guess it is no secret that our relationship is crumbling and neither of us are trying to fix it anymore. I'm not sure why we just don't break it off now.
"Where are you going?" I ask as he pulls a pair of neon green running shoes onto his feet.
"Home."
"Are you coming back?"
"Does it matter?"
And soon Eli was gone leaving me all alone. The girls are still asleep and I'm glad that it is a Saturday. They can get more rest being that they don't have class to attend on the weekends.
I crawl back into bed, under my bubblegum pink blanket Nicola brought me for my birthday and stare at the ceiling. The sun has not risen just yet leaving the darkness to cloud my walls. The only light that comes through the windows is a passing car's headlights every now and then.
The girls won't wake up for hours and I'm hungry. Nicola would hate for me to go to her favorite diner without her but my hunger was killing me. At least I could get my mind off things for awhile.
I crawl back out of bed to pull a pair of forest green sweatpants up and over my hips before I step out of my room. I don't make it far however.
"Where are you going?" Nicola asks before her finger switches on the light in the hallway.
Her eyelids are barely parted, so her radiant blue eyes are squinting at me. Nicola isn't fully awake yet as shown by her rusty red strands are falling everywhere out of the ponytail she attempted. I continue to look on not as interested as she is in my emotionless face but I am more interested in the stain of pink that runs under her cool pale skin.
