I honestly don't even remember when I updated last. Hopefully you guys are enjoying the story :)

Monday

I naturally sigh as I read the day that begins the work and school week. But all of that frustration evaporates when I remember that I don't have to work until Wednesday.

I roll out of bed then remembering that I am going to spend the day with my niece today and that makes me extremely happy. When my niece was born almost seven years ago, her father ran off with someone who wasn't my sister and I promised my sister that I would be someone who would protect her and be a person that if she could always call on when she was in need.

And being here, virtually far away from her, I don't get to see Leilani as much. But today I'll have her to myself for the whole day and we can do whatever she wants. She'll probably ask me about my life like she usually does. Always so curious about a life that's as a dreadful describing it as dreadful as it is living it.

But Leilani's six so I'll tell her a milder, more kid friendly version.

Showering quickly and dressing even quicker, when I zip my strawberry colored jacket up, I can't help but stare at myself in the mirror. Something that I rarely find myself doing.

I start off by smiling, so the deep dimples on both sides of my little pink lips can stand out. This also flushes the faint olive tone under my tawny cheeks and seeing that makes me smile even more. A few of my walnut brown strands tickle my ears as the rest try their best to rest in a mess of a bun.

Marching downstairs, I see Nadine and Sarah out the corner of my eye in the kitchen already bickering. I'm sure that's not even noon yet but here they are arguing about nonsense I suppose.

I make the mistake of walking into the middle of it however.

"Sarah, we won't be throwing any more parties, alright? Stop asking," Nadine slams her hand against the silver marble counter that the both of them are leaning against.

Her chestnut eyes are glaring at Sarah angrily whose own eyes are being hidden behind a pair of typical black square framed sunglasses. I don't even begin to question why she has sunglasses on in the house because I know she went to a party on campus last night.

Hungover.

Nadine looks at me, putting on a smile that is radiating enough to reveal the bronze stain under her beige skin.

Sarah, however, is pouting her pink lips in the direction of Nadine. She runs her fingers through her blonde hair which is being concealed by the hood on her cherry red hoodie. I stare at the pale pink tint appearing under her fawn skin as she continues her argument with Nadine.

I make my way to the ivory fridge, in search of one of those juice boxes before I feel someone in back of me.

"Where are you off to?" Nicola says in back of me as I move things around looking for those lime green boxes.

"I'm going to spend the day with Leilani today. Lauren says she's been asking for me like crazy so I figured why not."

"Oh okay. I thought you were spending the day with someone else."

"Eli?" I ask turning around in my squat position to look at her dark eyebrows raise on her face. "I haven't heard from him in a couple of days, I'm sure it's over between us."
