~CHAPTER 7~

What I thought or he thought would last forever didn't seem so much like forever.

"Jen!"

I turn around and I saw Kyle. Oh Kyle. I haven't had time hang out or even to talk to him. I guess he's the only friend i've got in this school.

"Oh hey, what's up?"

"Nothing really, I just missed you," I just stood there and didn't make a sound "Cause I haven't spent time with you lately"

"Oh ya, ya. I've been really busy lately but I miss you too"

"Good cause I thought you forgot about me," he said sarcastically

"No of course not. How bout we go out for lunch to catch up and all,"

"Sounds great, see ya later."

By the time period 2 was done, Kyle and I walked down to the plaza. It's been a while since I've actually gone out with a friend. A boy friend.

"So anything new?"

"I don't wanna bother you with all this love drama-"

"Ouuu interesting, tell me." His face brightened up

"Ok well, there's this guy I dated over a year ago. I caught him cheating on me so I broke up with him this summer. Then I've been trying to avoid him but he sits beside me in class. He got mad at me for something I said so he asked the teacher if he could move desks using some lame excuse and he doesn't care about anything anymore. He's not the same."

"Oh. So do you still like him?"

"WHAT? No. That'd be stupid," I shake my head

"Then why do you still care?"

That's a good question. Why do I still care? I mean if I really didn't have feelings for him anymore, why should I care that he doesn't care about me anymore?

Ring! Ring! Ring! Ring!

Before I could answer him, my phone started ringing. I reach for my bag pocket and as I took my phone out, the ring fell on the ground. It started rolling and rolling and rolling so I chase after it. When I bent down to pick it up, someone else had already grabbed it.

I look up.

----------------------------------------------------

"Is this what you-" His voice surprised me. Damn it Austin.

"Uhh no, I didn't know I was chasing after that- thing. I thought it was just a coin so,"

"Didn't realize you still had it after all this time,"

"I didn't either, it was just in my bag."

"Ok so do you want it still?"

"No, it's yours anyway,"

"Pfft- I don't want it so I guess this garbage can have it." He tossed the ring into the bin and walked away.

What the hell is wrong with him? Kyle followed me and I could tell he was confused with everything that's going on in my life.

"What happened?"

"Nothing, I just dropped something but who cares, it's not that important,"

"That ring?" He peeks inside the garbage bin "looks valuable to me"

"No it's completely fake. Come, I'm hungry. Let's go get something to eat."

We walked into the restaurant and sat down. A waiter came by and asked for our orders. I wasn't really in the mood to eat but I was very hungry.

"I gotta go use the washroom, be right back."

Before I walked in, I could hear someone crying. It sounded familiar but I didn't know who. I opened the door and I saw Heather. I walked up to her and stood beside her

"Are you okay?" I couldn't help it. I had to comfort her in some way despite what she has done to me.

"What? This is the perfect time for you to make fun of me. Instead you're asking me if i'm okay? We hate each other and-"

"Stop. I know you're hurt. It's ok to let all your anger out, I'll be right here,"

"Why are you being so nice to me?"

"Because you were my best friend. And you were there for me in times like this. You helped me get through stuff like this. Remember?"

"Yeah." she sniffed and smiled at me "I'm sorry. For everything. Even about Austin, I-"

"No it's fine. I've moved on."

"Ok." It was silent for a minute "Jen, can we be friends again?"

"Yeah Heath," I said as we both hugged each other "I missed you. A lot. And I didn't mean any of the things I said to you. I was just- shocked and hurt."

"I missed you so much Jen. You have no idea what it has been like without you. And I know, same here. Promise me one thing though, we are never gonna let boys in between our friendship again okay?"

"I promise." We both giggled.

We came out of the washroom and back to the table Kyle was sitting at.

"Oooohhh when you said you moved on, I didn't realize you're already dating Kyle," She teases

"hahaa very funny. But Kyle and I are just friends,"

"Not for long." she whispered

When we sat down, you could see that Kyle had a confused look on his face.

"Um hey," he said slowly

"Kyle this is Heather. And Heather this is Kyle," I already knew she knows Kyle but I needed it to be less awkward for both of them.

"Hi" Heather replied in a different, shy voice than what she normally has.

Kyle said hi back and the rest of lunch wasn't that interesting. At 12:39, we were leaving the plaza to start heading back to the school. It was pouring rain outside.

"Oh shit. I don't have an umbrella or a sweater with me," I said

"Crap. Maybe we could make a run for it?" Heather suggested

"No, no. You guys go ahead. I'll follow when it stops raining,"

"You're gonna be late and it's won't stop raining until later around 3 pm" Kyle replied

"Oh well, I'll figure something out. Go,"

"Here," he takes off his sweater and puts it around me "let's go."

"You're gonna get sick Kyle," I hesitated

"Nah I'll be fine. I'll run." He smiles at me and bolted

When Kyle ran towards the direction of the school, Heather and I figured we would just walk. We aren't or never were the runner type.

"He's so sweet. Why can't every guy be like him," Heather said

"Woow you like him don't you?"

"I don't know. Maybe?" She sighed "but he obviously likes you so,"

"What are you talking about?" I let out a laugh

"He's in to you,"

"You're crazy. We're just friends."

Are we?
