(A/v) don't play the song yet.
Memphis's POV I look at Rachel and Daryl. I start to slowly walk away because there was a really awkward silence. I grabbed John's hand and we walk away. "Just the kids I was looking for." I look up and it's Johnson. "Yes sir?" John asks. "Come with me." Me and John follow him. He opens the door to the car and we get in. "Sir, where are we going?" "To your parents graves. I know you hardly remember them so I figured I should take you to see them. And if all the emotions hit at once and you cry I won't tell."
I look at John and he shrugs. "Here it is." John opens the door and we get out. Johnson walks over to four headstones. "Your parents wanted you to read these when they died. They gave them to me when you were born to make sure you were in good hands when they passed on." Johnson hands us both a piece of paper. I start to read mine.
Play the song "Dear daughter, hold your head up high. There's a world outside that's passing by. Never lose yourself. Remember that you're like nobody else. Life throws you in to the unknown, and you feel like you're out there all alone. These are words that every girl should get a chance to hear. There will be love, there will be pain, there will be hope, there will be fear. And through it all year after year, stand or fall I will be right here, for you. Don't worry about those stupid girls. If they try to bring you down its cause they're scared and insecure. Don't change for any man, even if he offers you the stars and takes you by the hand. Life throws you in to the unknown. And you feel like you're out there all alone. These are words that every girl should have a chance to hear. There will be love, there will be pain, there will be hope, there will be fear. And through it all year after year, stand or fall I will be right hear, for you. I was just like you, and just like me you're gonna make it through. These are words that every girl should have a chance to hear. There will be love, there will be pain, there will be hope, there will be fear. And through it all year after year, stand or fall I will be right here. And after all I will be right there. For you." Lizzie hale stated it perfectly. I'm sorry you didn't get to hear this. Your father is too. I wish I had seen you grow up, and learned more about you. Mommy and daddy love you.
I finished reading it and a tear rolled down my cheek. I looked over at John and he had the peice of paper in his hand and looked down. I looked at Johnson and he was looking at something and looked scared. I ignored him and walked over to John. I grabbed his hand and looked down at my parents graves.
John's POV Johnson handed me a piece of paper and I read it.
Hi Johnny wonny. I don't know if you remember that, or me for that matter. I just wanted you to know that I love you. So does your mom. I know that I wasn't a very good father because I was always working. I know we didn't get to do the things that fathers usually do with their sons, and I'm sorry. I remember swinging you around in the yard and letting go so you 'fly' I know you're thinking, why the hell would I like that? Well I don't know you just did. If you got a girlfriend, kiss her for me. I love you.
I blink and look at their graves. "I love you too." I whispered. Memphis came over and held my hand. "Kids I know this is important to you but we got to go." We walk up to the car and get in. "What is it?" Memphis asks looking out the back window. "Nothing." I look at Memphis and she shrugs. Then Johnson guns the gas. "Johnson! What the hell are you doing!" I scream. "Covenant fleet on the way, get back to base and suit up." He orders. Once we get back me and Memphis sprint into base and up the stairs. She grabs her helmet, her pistol, rifle, her knife, and extra rounds. She pulls her jacket on and looks at me scared as hell. "Spartans never die." I said holding my hand out to her. She puts her helmet on and grabs my hand. "But what if someone gets killed in action?" "There's no such thing as killed in action, only missing in action. Spartans live on after passing." She nodded and we ran downstairs. Daryl, Fred, Rachel, and Johnson were already suited up. "We split up in groups of three,115 AKA Rachel Carter, 114 AKA Daryl LeRoy, you're with me. 116, 117, 118, you're together. "Yessir!" We all shout in unison. "Spartans never die." Johnson says looking at all of us. "It's been an honor serving along side you." We nod and walk outside. We split up into our groups and head out. I heard a growl behind me and an energy sword powering up. I turn around and don't see anything. "Shit, the Elites are in cammo." I warned everyone. We kept walking and Fred stopped us. "What?" "Sh. Ya hear that?" I listened closely and I could here a woman's voice screaming. "You can't have my baby!" She screamed. I tracked the voice and found her. I walked out and killed the Elite standing in front of her. She falls to her knees and held her kids lifeless body. "Ma'am, we need to get you out of here." She looked up at me, pulled out her pistol, aimed it at her head. "Finish this war." She told me with a smile and fired. I stood there still looking at the woman, who fell dead on her deceased kid, holding him in her arms. "Hey John, get over here!" Memphis yelled and I ran over and some grunts were laying dead. I looked at Memphis and her hands were covered in blue blood. "Come on." Fred calls. It was really quiet, too quiet. I saw a distortion in the area around Fred. "Fred look out!" I call and start to shoot the disguised Elite. It's cammo falls and shields blaze. It charges it's plasma sword and stabs Fred in the stomach. "Fred!"
Memphis's POV "Fred!" I scream and me and John kill the Elite that stabbed him. I run over to him and drop my assault rifle. "G-go I'm j-just dead we-weight." He pulls off his dog tags and puts them in my hand. "See you in hell." "If I find you in hell Im kicking your ass out." John's voice cracks as he says it. I pull his helmet off. Blood is trickling down his face from his mouth. I start getting choked up. "You guys were my best friends." He says and he stops breathing. I look down and grab onto his dog tags until they cut into my hands. "Damn it." John chokes out under his breath. I go to put Fred in as Killed In Action, then I remember what John said. That Spartans don't die, they go missing. They stay alive in our hearts. I put Fred in as Missing In Action. I stand up and look at Fred, then John. Daryl comes in on the comm. "What the hell do you mean Fred's missing?" "Spartans never die." "Oh." I could hear his voice trembling over the comm. "Fred's death won't go out in vain." I say planning my attack in my head.
"Memphis, don't do anything stupid, you could jeopardize the mission. Regroup at the rondevuos point." The coordinates pop up in my roster. "Negative 114. These sons of bitches are going to burn." And I drop out of the talk. In front of us is tons of Elites, Grunts, Brutes, and Jackals. I give John a kiss. "I'm going to be back in a minute. Stay here." I ordered. "Yes ma'am." I ran through the middle dodging shots. I lead all of them into power plant. "Hey you bastards! Over here!" I ran in and slightly opened the back door most of them came running in. I slid through the small opening in the door and closed it, I ran around to the other side closing and locking that door. I stick a grenade to the plant and run back. "Head down!" I scream and I hide behind the rock John was behind. And the plant blows. I hear the covenant squeal. "Burn, bitches." John says, looking back at the plant engulfed in flame. We headed to the coordinates Daryl sent us but I can't help but look at Fred. Tears start rolling down my faces as I recite Fred's number, age, and vitals. John walks over to me having heard my crying. "Bull shit Spartans can't cry." He says giving me a hug. He picks up my rifle and hands it to me. "Let's kick some alien ass." I could tell he shot me a quick half smile.
