Fifteen

I mostly stared at my hands when I told him what happened after I closed the door, after he kissed me good night. I didn’t dare to look at him, for fearing that he might yell at me, or get pissed off because I made contact with the outside world, or…whatever, I had no clue. I only looked up one time, when I mentioned the part in my dream when Victor said about Cyrus having something he wanted, he looked almost shocked if I was honest with myself, so I quickly looked back down at my hands. But when I finally finished my explanation, he carefully grabbed my chin so he could look at me, and I was surprised to see that his dark eyes didn’t show anger, only relief…or at least it was an emotion other than anger, and outrage.

“Amanda, you were right to tell me this.” He said gently. “This could really help us stop him. We just have to wait for Violet and Garrett to wake up, and we’ll all have to coordinate what we should do next.”

    “When did they get back?”

“A little while after you went to bed, around midnight, one o’clock maybe.” He said with half a smile, and I noticed that it barely touched his eyes.

“What time is it?” I asked as I padded around, trying to find my cell phone.

    “It’s almost noon.”

    “Really?”

He didn’t answer me, but just nodded almost grimly.

“Wow.” I said as I slowly, and hesitantly climbed out of the sheets. “I never usually sleep this late. That’s weird.” I added, mostly to myself as my feet touched the neutral color carpet.

Again he didn’t say anything, and for that it frightened me a little. So, I finally drew in a deep breath. “What’s wrong?” I asked my tone was obviously full of concern.

“Nothing.” He said, his tone hinted almost no emotion. But that didn’t mean that I didn’t detect a hint of something else.

“It doesn’t sound like it’s nothing.” I said observantly as I hesitantly scooted towards his motionless body at the foot of the bed. “What is it that Victor wanted?” I added hesitantly.

I was right beside him, but he almost didn’t show any sign acknowledging my existence. So, I carefully placed my hand on top of his, and part of me feared that he might flinch away from my touch. I internally sighed with relief when he began to interlace his hand with mine. Which could be a good sign…I think.

“He wants this.” His voice penetrated the silence as he pulled something out of his pants pocket.

At first glance, I didn’t know what it was, it reminded me of what the inside of an iPod might look like, but I had no clue. But, it overall looked more like a computer chip. Something within the technology department, something that’s way out of my comfort zone. And I don’t know anyone who would even know what this thing is.

“What is it?” I asked as he placed the object in my hand, allowing me a closer look at it.

It did look like a computer chip, or an enlarged microchip. As I turned it over in my hand, I could see a bunch of numbers and letters on the other side written in black text. I had no idea what it meant, but it was the only thing about it that kind of fascinated me.

“It’s a chip that should belong to the world’s smartest computer.” He said breaking into my internal babble. “It can get you onto a website in less than a millisecond, and download much, much quicker than what the other Internet servers can. Everyone in the world would kill to have this chip into your ordinary Mac, or PC. Even if the computer has the highest quality software, this chip will make it even better, and could even make it to where no virus could infect the computer.”
