Ten
I was pretty sure that ninety nine point nine percent of last night was a dream. Because when I woke up late the next morning, and I went and looked into the mirror, I didn’t recognize the girl in the reflection. I knew that it is me, but it was a different version of me. My brown eyes looked too wild, my face had too many spots of pink, especially around my cheeks. And, whenever I thought of the one guy who makes me feel light headed in a good way, my heart was thumping four times faster than before. What had happen last night?
Whenever I try to think of it, I can only remember only one part of it, the part where Cyrus Huntington kissed me. I just couldn’t believe that a guy as sexy as him kissed a girl like me. I also remembered having to sneak into the house afterwards, and I could remember the sigh of relief when I wasn’t met with anyone surprising me by turning on a lamp.
I wanted to scream in excitement because of the way the kiss made me feel. I wanted to tell someone about it.
After changing into my most comfortable stay at home clothes, and after making sure that both mom and dad weren’t home, I find Amber in the kitchen, eating a bowl of cereal. But when she noticed my entrance, she gazed at me with only one emotion: anger.
“Hi.” I said, my voice already sounded apprehensive, and scared.
“Why didn’t you call me?” she demanded angrily. “You’re just lucky that I didn’t tell mom and dad. I had to hide under your covers and pretend to be you when you’re asleep, just so they wouldn’t have to stay up all night worrying. I was the one who was worrying about you. Now, if you would be so kind, would you please tell me where the hell have you been?”
For a moment, I began to wonder if telling her about the most memorable part of last night is a good idea. But after hearing her worrying rant, I decided against telling her, instead I tell her the short, edited version of the truth. “I lost track of time, and I figured you would be asleep, and I didn’t want to wake you.”
Then, her face began to relax, all trace of worry gone, and it’s now replaced with relief. It was then I decided to keep this little memory to myself as I got myself some breakfast.
“Did you have fun last night?” she asked, and her tone hinted nothing but true curiosity. I quickly took the opportunity to not meet her eyes to get a box of cereal, and a bowl.
“Yeah.” I said as I poured myself a bowl of cereal. “What about you? Did you have fun…before the worrying began?” I added hesitantly as I got the milk.
“You can say I did, but I finally finished my art appreciation paper. You would think that you would be done with art right after high school, but apparently art won’t leave you alone until the day you die.” She said with a giggle.
As I sat down with my breakfast and cup of orange juice, I couldn’t help but saying, “Thanks for covering for me.”
“No problem. I figured if the roles were reversed, you would’ve done the same thing for me.”
I stayed home today, and got caught up on my schoolwork. But throughout most of the day, I was thinking of Cyrus. His gorgeous body. His luscious black curly hair. His alluring dark eyes. The sound of his voice. The feel of his touch when he held my hand, and (of course) the touch of his lips when he kissed me. Okay, I’ll admit that I was mostly thinking of that kiss.
Yet, I couldn’t help but wonder—yet again—if he’s really too good to be true. I try to think of any faults he might have, but I couldn’t think of anything. There’s nothing wrong with him that I know of, or that anyone else knows of. But another part of me began to wonder what was up with his disappearance last week. Of course it is flu season, but when I saw him during the show, he didn’t look like he was recovering from the flu. In fact, he looked perfectly fine to me. He didn’t look like he was the type of guy who’d play hooky, or do anything stupid like that.
