Twelve
I don’t know how long I’ve been knocked out, but the weird thing is that I didn’t remember having any dreams during that period of time. As far as I know, nothing came into my sub-conscious mind. Not even the dream where Cyrus and I were in the meadow appeared, but then I remembered why the dream probably didn’t come, and I did not want to think of that evil redheaded person.
The only sound I heard, that drew me from unconscious to conscious is the sound of two people talking, and it almost sounded like they were arguing. The first voice I recognized, without a doubt, as Cyrus’s, but the other voice sounded new. Judging from the distinct cadence, the other person is female, probably black, and she sounded pretty pissed.
“How in the hell did she get involved?” she asked incredulously. Yep, she did sound pissed.
“What was I supposed to do? Let Victor kill her during the assault?” Cyrus snapped back, and it didn’t take long for me to know that they were discussing about me. I mean, did they know that I was still here, and I could hear them, too?
“Great, now we have to protect her?” the girl asked again, but this time her tone did not contain any defiance, just curiosity.
“Looks like it, he knows where she lives.”
“Great.” She sighed, and it sounded like she’s exasperated, or irritated, or she was being sarcastic. I couldn’t tell.
“Violet, what if this was happening to Garrett? What would you do?”
There was a pause, which probably means the girl named Violet could be thinking his words over. Who ever this Garrett is, he must mean a lot to her, otherwise she wouldn’t have answered so quickly, “I would do the same thing you’re doing with…ugh, what’s her name again?”
“Amanda. And you’re just lucky that Garrett’s one of us.” Cyrus said, and I couldn’t help but notice the way he said my name. It was filled with an emotion I could not detect.
It was then that I grew tired of listening. My eyes began to flutter open, and I stifled a yawn. Which caused Cyrus, and the girl to turn towards me.
I had never seen this girl before. She was definitely black, but more of a dark chocolate color with relaxed, short dark brown hair. She also appeared to be taller than me, probably around Missy’s height. I also couldn’t deny the fact that she is really, really pretty.
“Good morning.” Cyrus said as he helped get myself vertical.
“Morning?” I blurted, and I notice that I’m in a different set of clothes, similar to the ones I wore last night, or, the other night, I had no clue. And my hair was still wavy, and not flat ironed straight. So I add, “How long have I been out?”
“About eleven hours.” He said as he gestured for the girl to follow him. “Amanda, this is Violet Davis, you could say that she’s my partner in crime.” He added with a laugh.
“Nice to meet you.” I said as I slowly extended my hand towards her.
“It’s a pleasure.” Violet said as she shook my hand, really hard. “So, you’re the girl Cyrus wouldn’t shut up about?” she added jokingly with a smile.
For a moment I didn’t know what to say, but I just shrugged my shoulders and reluctantly said, “I guess so.”
In a weird way, Violet reminded me of Missy and Amber, but with a different skin tone. She had the same big sister like feeling emanating from her, which probably explains why I immediately felt comfortable around her.
