. epilogue
Logan woke with a start. The space around him seemed familiar. The sun was out, blinding him as he looked around the room.
He was fully dressed, confused even further as he made his way out of the bedroom. Children of different ages roamed the halls, pushing passed Logan in a hurry.
He was at the school. At the realization, Logan quickly made his way down the hall, heading towards the Professor.
He saw many familiar faces, one belonging to Hank, or Beast now. Where was August?
Jean and Scott were standing in the threshold of the Professor's office, and after a brief greeting, both of them left Logan to talk to Charles.
"Logan," the Professor greeted, a soft smile on his face. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be teaching your history class?"
Logan furrowed his eyebrows. "History class? Teaching?"
The Professor then had a look of understanding on his face. "Welcome back. We have a lot to talk about."
"What's happened?" Logan asked, uneasy as he sat down in front of the oak wood desk.
"You saved us," the Professor told him. "Everything is at peace thanks to you. You saved so many lives, Logan."
Logan looked around, examining the room. "Everyone is alive?"
"Everyone," Charles assured.
"Beast, Scott, Jean, Storm, Kitty," Logan listed all of the people he saw on his walk to the Professor. There was one missing.
"Where's August?"
The Professor sat still. His old and tired face was almost emotionless. Logan waited for a response, and after a long while, he didn't receive an answer that he was looking for.
"August who?"
"August Moran?" Logan emphasized the name, staring at the Professor, completely bewildered. "She was -- don't mean to be sappy or anything but -- she was like the love of your life!"
"You must be mistaken," the Professor said. "I've never met anyone-"
Logan shot up from his chair. What happened to her? She didn't die, did she?
The Professor called after Logan, but he was already making his way down the hall. This must be a trick. This is all a sick, twisted joke. But as Logan searched the halls for the familiar face of August Moran, he came to a conclusion that she wasn't here.
Logan entered his room, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. How is this possible?
"Logan."
Logan turned around, finding August standing right behind him. She looked no different; just as young as the last time he saw her.
"August?"
"I'm sorry for the confusion," she said, which only made him even more confused. "It was just easier this way."
"You made him forget you?" Logan asked, trying to clarify the situation.
"Not exactly," August sighed, taking a seat on the bed. "I just made it so we never met."
"Why would you do that?"
"I couldn't stand to see him hurt," August replied. "It was better to have him never meet me, and me never meet him. I saved him some heartbreak."
"Why are you not here?" Logan questioned, referring to her missing absence in the school.
"I'm going to die," August said. "Well, I'm dead in your time. I will die tomorrow in my time."
"Could you do me a favor, Logan?" August turned to the man. Logan nodded.
"Of course," Logan complied. He felt like this was her dying wish.
"Tell him I said that I love him too." August had seen the future, and she knows the last words Charles will ever say to her are her three favorite words: I love you. She'll never get the chance to say it back to him.
"He won't know what I mean," Logan pointed out, immediately regretting the words. August will miss him just as much as Charles does, even if he doesn't know her.
August paused, her eyes focused on the carpet. "I know." The words were just whispers, but Logan heard them.
"I'll tell him, don't worry."
August smiled, going over and hugging Logan. She smiled up at him, before disappearing right before his eyes. Logan looked over at his bedroom door, mourning over August and feeling terrible for the Professor.
Walking back to the Professor's study, Logan hung his head.
"Logan, are you feeling okay?" Charles Xavier asked, turning his wheelchair towards Logan.
"She loves you too," Logan said, then simply walked out of the room, leaving the Professor alone in his study.
"I know she does." And for the first time in a while, Charles could feel his heart beating again.
