. chapter six
"How old are you?"
Peter had been warming up to August for the entire car ride towards the Pentagon. August always took the flirtatious remarks lightheartedly and with an amused smile, and Peter was having the time of his life making her smile and making Charles turn red with anger. Peter enjoyed hearing the contagious laugh from August and loved to annoy Charles; it was hitting two birds with one stone for Peter.
"Old enough," Peter replied, making the glare in Charles' eyes colder.
August shook her head at the playful teen, "you've got to be at least seventeen."
"So?" Peter shrugged. "You're, what? Twenty?"
August snorted, an unattractive sound the was a mixture of a laugh and a cough. "I wish."
"Twenty-five?"
"Thirty-five, kid."
"Woah."
August laughed, shaking her head once again. Peter only smirked though, and she knew he was about to say something completely uncalled for.
"My mom doesn't have to know."
August blushed, her eyes widening at Peter's words.
"That's it!" Charles growled, twisting in the passenger seat to stare at Peter.
"What? Is she your girlfriend or something?" Peter asked innocently, unaffected by Charles' hard glare.
Charles faltered, "i-it's complicated."
"So she's a free bird?"
August set a hand on Peter's shoulder, making him look up at her. She shook her head, indicating that it was enough. Peter's shoulders slumped, and he leaned back in his seat.
August looked up at Charles, sending him an apologetic look. He melted at the sight of her emerald eyes, she saw how his blue eyes softened. Whatever it was that they had ten years ago was still alive inside Charles, and August could tell that it was special. She had a feeling. She only wishes that the memories could be revived for her.

The plan was quickly thought out while in the parking lot of the large Pentagon building. They would all enter as tourists. Peter and August would sneak away and find the guard that would bring Erik his lunch. Hank will send a live feed of television shows and Charles and Logan will evacuate people from the kitchen so Peter and August can bring back Erik.
August was pulled along through the building by Peter. He used his mutation to speed into the elevator in the kitchen, knocking off the male guard's hat in the process.
He went to go pick it up, spotting Peter leaning in the corner. He stripped the guard of his uniform, taping him to the corner of the elevator once he was done. August had already stolen a woman's uniform from the locker room the officers had, but Peter refused to do the same, claiming that it wasn't cool enough.
Once the doors opened, Peter had already picked up the tray and made his exit. August followed suit, earning odd looks from the many guards lining both sides of the walls.
August shifted her gaze to the back of Peter's silver head. Erik never taught her anything like Raven, so this was definitely not her division. However, she believed that she could do this. Erik will be shocked, but not as much as when he finds out Charles took part in his escape.
Peter and August walked through the small white corridor that led to Erik's cell. August quite liked the set-up of the cell. She watched as Peter slipped a note into the tray, then slid it through the hole in the floor, having it land right next to Erik's head.
