“Goodbye hon, I love you. Take care of Elli.” Mom said tearfully as I climbed into Marissa’s car, Elli was in her booster seat and Marissa was driving us to the airport.
“You excited?” Marissa asked as we drove away.
“I’m a little nervous to be quite honest, but yeah, I can’t wait to properly be a mom.” I said, looking back at Elli in the back of the car. We drove with the radio down low, Elli fell asleep after a while and Rissa was driving, but also deep in thought.
“Demi, you do know that even though Amelie meant the world to you, she’d want you to find someone new. You can’t be alone forever.” She said, glancing over at me, we were almost at the airport.
“I’m not ready yet.” I muttered, looking down at my hands. I would never be ready.
“I know you too well to believe that, but it’s your life.” She sighed, turning into the car-park of the airport.
“Thank you for driving us.” I smiled, trying to ease the tension as we parked.
“Anytime babe.” She said and got out of the car, grabbing my suitcase from the boot. I got up and collected Elli from the car, grabbing her car seat in my other arm.
“How are you gonna get all this stuff on the plane?” Rissa questioned as she followed by me pulling my suitcases.
“Skills.” I shrugged and waved at Max who was waiting by the door for me.
“Hey Max.” I smiled, checking Elli was OK. We said goodbye to Marissa and went to go get on the plane.

“Home sweet home.” I sighed to myself and let Elli down to explore the house while I went to unpack. My laziness won over once the bags were inside and I just left them in the living room. I grabbed Elli from the dining room and sat her down on the sofa, turned on the kids channel, went into Elli’s room downstairs and grabbed the parcel I’d wrapped with Amelie over a year ago.
“Baby girl, I have a present for you.” I smiled and sat down on the sofa, pulling Elli onto my lap. I handed her the present and she looked up at me, confused. “Let mommy help you.” I held her hands and ripped the present open.
“Dog?” She looked up at me and I laughed. When the only word your daughter can say is ‘dog’, some situations can be interesting…
“No, it’s a bear. His name is Bruce but you can change it if you want.” I watched her looking intently at her mom’s bear and then she looked up at me with the cutest expression on her face and hugged the toy to her chest.
“Dog.” She grinned.
