*1 Year Later*
“Elli! Not in the kitchen!” I called from across the room at her, she was opening up the draws in the kitchen.
“No!” She said and pouted at me, I went over and scooped her up.
“You can play anywhere, but not in the kitchen. The kitchen is for big people only.” I reminded her but she was already distracted by the TV I’d been watching. I went and sat her down in front of it, and put it onto the kids channel. “I’m going to make your dinner, stay here and watch this.” I told her and went to the kitchen to make food. I’d barely started on the pasta when the doorbell went off, and I went to go get it.
“Please don’t slam the door. Hear me out.” The person said, before I’d even opened the door.
“Oh. Wilmer… Please be quick. I’m making dinner for Elli.” I sighed, taking in his face. He looked older, but then again, I hadn’t seen him in almost four years.
“I miss you Dem, I made some stupid assed mistakes when we were together and I just wanted to say that I’m sorry.” He looked sincere, but I didn’t care. I wasn’t looking for anyone, Amelie was my someone and no-one could replace her.
“If you’re trying to get back with me Wilmer, I think you missed the memo. I don’t play for your team anymore.” I rolled my eyes and went to shut the door on him.
“Oh come on Demi, we both know that that’s not true. Look me in the eyes and tell me you don’t have feelings for me anymore.” He said, putting his hand carefully behind my head, like he used to do before he kissed me.
“Okay first of all, don’t touch me. Secondly-” I was cut off by Elli hugging my leg and looking up at Wilmer.
“Hello.” She smiled up at him, and he took his hand off my head.
“Hola.” He grinned down at her.
“Elli, go inside and watch your TV please.” I tried to prize her off of my leg. She went reluctantly.
“She’s sweet. Who’s the father?” He said, resting his foot inside the door frame so I couldn’t close the door on him. He was scaring me now.
“None of your business… She’s not mine though.” I said, confused as to why he would care.
“Oh. So are you raising her alone or?” He looked over my shoulder at her sitting on the couch.
“Okay what’s your angle here Wilmer? Why do you care?” I glared at him and pushed his foot off the door frame.
“She needs a father Demi, I could be that. I’m good with kids.” He put his arm out, as if to hold my waist but I slapped his hand away.
“I’m doing a perfectly good job at raising her,” I started shutting the door, “and I’m seeing somebody anyway.” I lied, hoping that that would make him go away.
“Call me when you guys break up.” He smirked before I shut the door in his face. I turned away from the door to see Elli standing by the sofa watching me. I held back tears, he had caught me at my most vulnerable and I had a nasty feeling I hadn’t heard the last of him yet.
*2 Days Later*
“Elli! Time to go honey, turn the TV off please.” I yelled down the stairs, grabbing all my stuff and rushing downstairs. We were late, as per usual. I loaded Elli into the car and drove away, I was taking Elli to day care.
“Music mommy!” Elli said from the back, I could hear her bouncing around in her seat, and I was glad for her straps.
“Alrighty then.” I said, flicking the radio on. We caught the last 30 seconds of Cher Lloyd’s new song and I couldn’t help myself breaking out in a grin at how successful she’d become.
“Celebrity gossip of the day! Taylor Swift is rumored to be pregnant! The country-pop singer was recently pictured on holiday in France with her husband Ed Sheeran, and possibly a little one on the way!” I rolled my eyes at the stupid shit people manage to make up about celebrities, but keep it on in case they had some new insight into my life that even I didn’t know about! “Harry Styles files for divorce from his wife of a year, Cara Delevingne after rumors of an affair surfaced last week. And last today, Demi Lovato is rumored to be off the market! A source close to the star told E! News that Demi is currently seeing someone, but trying to keep it under wraps to protect her daughter! And that’s all the celebrity gossip we’ve got for you today! Tune in at 8 this morning for the national headlines.” The radio presenter finished and they started playing Bruno Mars.
“Shit.” I muttered, knowing exactly who this ‘source’ was. And the only way to get rid of him was to actually see someone else.
