I thrust myself away from Matthew and give him an angry and confused glare.
"WHAT WAS THAT FOR?!" I whisper furiously.
"It was a dare from Louis," Matthew explains.
I smack Louis in the head and notice Andrew staring at me in a confused way. The bell rings and Ms.Kipling waltzes in. I am angry at Louis for making Matthew kiss me but part of me is kind of.....happy. Matthew has been my best friend since sixth grade but that's all. No love, relationships, or awkwardness at all but now.....I can feel the awkward atmosphere and there are butterflies in my stomach. Matt has tousled dark hair, emerald green eyes, a slightly tanned and muscular body, and a great personality. He is somewhat smart, funny, nice, brave, and carefree. I'm daydreaming about Matthew when I feel a slight tap on my shoulder. Vanessa Leeman hands me a note. This is what it says.
Jordan, I'm sorry if what I did made you uncomfortable. I should've refused to do it...but I kinda wanted to do it. I don't know where this is coming from but I have feelings for you. Will you go out with me? Its okay if you don't want to. I hope we can still be friends.-Matthew
I'm shocked. Matt asked me out?! I don't know what to do. I think I like Matt but I also have some feelings for Andrew...I don't have much of a chance with him though....and when a good opportunity comes up you should take it...I grab a pencil and scribble down one word. Yes. I fold the note back up and hand it to Vanessa.
"Pass this back to Matthew," I whisper.
She nods and passes it to the desk behind her. Matt takes hold of the note and opens it. He glances up at me with a smile and I grin back. The rest of language arts is a bore and I nervously keep looking at Matt. Finally, the bell rings and I practically jump out of my seat. I rush into Matt's arms and we are locked in loving embrace. I realize that all this time maybe I did love him. We walk into the cafeteria.
"I'll race you to the lunch line, loser has to get the surprise meat!" he playfully shouts as he begins to run towards the crowded lunch line.
"Oh no you don't!" I scream.
Fortunately, I make it to the line first.
"Ugh is there any chance I can back out of the deal?" he asks as he is served the gooey brown blob of disgustingness that is the meat.
"No chance," I answer happily.'
We sit down at our usual table, the normal table. See, the cafeteria tables are each labeled. The huge table on the left of the room is the popular table, which is where cheerleaders, jocks ,models, and fashonistas sit. The table in the far right corner is the nerd/geek table, which is where the gamers, technology experts, and math and science enthusiasts sit. There is also the loner table, where friendless and miscellaneous type people who have no social life sit and there is the prep table, which is home to intelligent but snobby and judgemental rich kids. There are a few other specific tables but most are just normal tables like mine. Tables where just a group of friends talk and fool around.
Julie, Matthew, Louis, Daniela, Brianna, James, and Camryn soon arrive.
"Sooo how is the new couple doing?" Camryn asks teasingly.
"Who told you?" I hurriedly question.
"Vanessa read the note, practically the whole school knows....including the populars," she replies.
"Why that little bitch! Ugh what am I gonna do?" I exclaim in disgust.
"I dunno its not so bad being public, I mean look at Dani and James and Bri and Louis and me and Zach! Our relationships are fine even though we're public!" Camryn argues.
"Yeah but well being public isn't always the best thing, especially when the populars hate you," Brianna says, answering for me.
"Bri is right, populars tease us all the time and its uncomfortable plus I've heard they play nasty tricks on people sometimes to ruin relationships,"James suddenly says.
" Yeah, did you hear what Luke, Ryan, and Tyler did to Mariana and Anthony?" Julie exclaims.
"Course, didn't everyone?" Daniela snorts.
"I didn't," I say curiously.
"Well, Anthony and Mariana were walking together holding hands and all on their way home and Luke, Ryan, and Tyler attacked Anthony and dragged him back to school. They hung him up on the flag pole by his underwear and then Luke told Mariana that if she didn't break up with Anthony they'd beat him up," Louis explained.
"So of course, she broke up with him but Anthony thought it was because she didn't want to be with the guy who got hung on the flag pole and now they don't even talk," Zach finishes as he waltzes over to our table and puts his arm around Camryn's waist.
Zach isn't exactly a friend but he's okay I guess since he's dating my best friend. He's a prep with the looks of a male model. He confidently runs his hand through his soft brown hair and gives Camryn a loving look with those piercing brown eyes.
"Well, I'm sure nothing like that will happen to Jordan and Matt," Camryn says as she hugs Zach.
Suddenly there is a high pitched shriek. Uh oh. Looks like a cheerleader is having another tantrum about her nails. I sigh. Why do I have to live in this horrid environment?
