Chapter Seven

The deer's ears perked up as a twig snapped. There was a rustling in the trees to it right, and then a whistling. Rody saw the panic in the deer's eyes as the crossbow bolt streaked across the clearing and impaled the deer. Rody walked out from the concealment of the trees to inspect the catch. It was big, and would be a pain to bring back to his ma's house. As he slung the deer over his shoulder he heard a faint rustling to his right. His instinct told him to drop the deer as an offering to whatever was there. There was bears and supposedly dragons if Mad Man Quin was right, he said he hit a dragon but all that he was known for was hitting the bottle. He took the deer with him and backed away slowly. Suddenly, a bear broke into the clearing. It was huge, and angry. It probably just came out of hibernation. It's red shot eyes went right through Rody and to the deer on his back. The bear roared. At the sheer sound of this common sense kicked in and he dropped the deer and ran. He went to a well known hunting lodge not far away from the ground. He was annoyed. That was a plump, nice, young deer. The door creaked as he opened up the lodge. He heard faint footsteps as he walked it. There usually wasn't anyone this time of year. He went in and saw the Captain walking to the kitchen.
"Why Rody, why are you up here this time of year?"
"Hunting for me Mam."
"Good boy, it's good to help your mam."
Rody sighed.
He asked "Captain, what are you doing?"
"Getting food for our trip,"
"Any luck?" Asked Rody, knowing the answer seeing there was no food in the lodge.
"No, a bears been disturbing me hunting."
"Oy, I caught a nice deer but a bear took it." Rody then said in a joking time of voice "Guess we have to kill it,"
The captain didn't seem to notice the sarcasm and said "Oy guess we will.
