I stare at the floor, my expression and mind blank. A blanket is draped around my shoulders. Hiccup walked around the house doing evening chores. We didn't eat dinner in the hall tonight. I didn't eat at all. He brought me food but ended up throwing it to the dragons. Hiccup put dishes On the counter to be taken to wash at the great hall.

"Are you sure you're not hungry? I could get you some bread, it's not too late." Hiccup offered. Not a word left my mouth.
"How about thirsty? I can warm you up some yak milk." He suggested. Once again, I was incapable of saying anything. I did not feel like talking about anything.

"Cold?" He tried once again. And once again, he got nothing. Hiccup sat down at the table and sighed.
"Y/n. Say something. Please."

"Something." I mutter under my breath. Hiccup frustratingly bangs his hand on the table. "Damnit y/n!"

"What?" I snap at him. "What else do you want me to say! A nightfury just died today! Drago died today. It was easy just knowing he was dead but actually seeing him die I- it-" I stammered on my words. My throat tighten up and tears pricked my eyes.

Hiccup looked ashamed and mournful. He walked over to me and hugged me. I rested my head on his shoulder, facing the opposite way of his head. My head looked outside the window. He separated the hug, placing his hands on my shoulders, his forehead rested against mine. "I'm sorry." He whispered. His hands traveled slowly down my arms. His left hand brushed across my right upper arm. Across my tattoo. I flinched and brought my arm away. Hiccup flinched his hand away. He sighed and stood up.

"Should I go get Eret to take you home then?" Hiccup asked flatly.

I thought for a moment. I could use Eret for someone to talk to, but right now, I just need comfort.
"Can I stay here?" I asked quietly.
Hiccup looked surprised. "Oh yeah, of course. Always." He smiled. "Need anything else."

I shook my head softly, laying down on the couch. "I'll just sleep down here."
Hiccup nodded, then looked at me for a moment. He smiled. "Goodnight y/n."

~dream~
Y/n and the nightfury were eye to eye. Drago was talking to y/n, saying things to trigger her into becoming the beast she hid inside.
"You really think you can take that dragon?"
"You can't do anything without me. You wouldn't be anything without me."
"What would your parents think of you now."
I could feel my blood boil as he said those frustrating things. I tried to ignore it the best I could but it overcame my senses.

"Now, my girl," Drago snarled. "Kill that dragon." I could feel my external self screaming no, but I still walked forward, axe ablaze. Tears fell from my eyes as I continued to beg him to make me stop.

I raised my arms into the air with my axe. Bringing it down with full force.

I jolt awake from my slumber, bracing the side of the couch. My entire body was shaking and sweating. Something grabbed my forearm. My head snapped violently to the side. Hiccup sat there, worry on his face. I swallowed the hard lump in my throat. I'm pretty sure it was puke because my stomach was all kinds of twisted.
"What are you doing down here?" I asked quietly, tucking my knees to my chest in the fetal position. Hiccup got up on the couch with me and rested his hand on top of mine.
"You were screaming in your sleep, I sat here until you stopped." He explained.

I look at him. Just look at him. I stare into his eyes and take in the features of his face. He stares back. This time, it's not awkward. It doesn't feel awkward. It just feels right. I reach out and gently touch his face. Hiccup seems very confused. I didn't give him long to think before I kissed him. I could tell that he was shocked by what I did, so I didn't make the kiss last very long before pulling away.
"I'm sorry. I don't know-" I was cut off by hiccup placing his hand on my face and his thumb over my mouth, hushing me. He returned a kiss to me, pulling my body closer to his. We kissed passionately, pulling each other close to each other. We finally broke away to breath.

Our foreheads rested against each other.
"What was that for?" Hiccup asked me. A playful smirk spread on my face. "Do I really need to explain myself? You did it back you know."

Hiccup and I both laugh gently. I pause for a moment. "Hiccup?" I ask, lifting my head to look at him.
"What is it?" He asks, tucking my hair behind my ear.
"Can I stay with you for the rest of the night?" I ask quietly.

Hiccup nods. "You don't have to ask me twice." He says gently, picking me up. I huff softly. "I can walk you know."
Hiccup nods before beginning to carry me up the stairs. "I know. But you don't have to."

I giggle softly, wrapping my arms around his neck. He sets me down on the bed and I lay down. He gets in beside me and pulls the blanket over us both. I smile as he wraps his arm around me and pulls me closer, my head resting on his chest.  I could hear the soothing beat of his heartbeat as I closed my eyes, preparing myself to sleep.

"Y/n?" Hiccup breaks the peaceful silence.
"Mhm?" I mumbled back.
"I promise I will protect you. I will always protect you."

I smiled gently at his words as he played with the hair on my back. I gently drifted into a more peaceful sleep than when I first went to bed.
