How To Be Successful On Wattpad!

Description

Description can come naturally for some people and can be really hard for others. For those who just have the gift of good description, they usually show it in their stories. But, for those people who can't write a descriptive story as easily as other, I am here to help you!

I have to say, description might be one of my favorite things about writing. Making characters, locations and scenes seem real is what description is about. I remember in school we use to have something called Boring Sentences where we would pick a boring sentence out of the box and make it interesting. Let me show you what I’m talking about:

Boring Sentence: I like milk

My Sentence: I like to drink a glass of chocolate milk before I go to sleep every night

 

Boring Sentence: School is boring

My Sentence: School is boring because my teacher always sleeps in class and we aren’t allowed to talk

Those sentences are quite childish, but try describing an area. For example:

I walked into the garden center.

When I walked into the large garden center there wasn’t a soul to be found.

Description gives the story its personality, and makes your story different. I always get sucked into a story with very good descriptions, in particularly of surroundings and location such as capacity, smell, weather, lighting, amount of people in area, etc.

Now, I’ve recently heard that some people don’t particularly like description. They would prefer a sentence:

I put on my clothes and went out.

Verses

I put on my favorite pair of skinny jeans and my purple top before I went out to my friends party.

Now, these people who don't particularly care about description just prefer to read the story. I, however, prefer to be in the story. To have a feeling like you’re there. Like you’re experiencing what the characters are.

Alright? Good!

All I have to say is; if you don’t have any description in your story, it will be boring. And you don’t want that do you?
