Peggy's POV
"Steve, is that you? Are you alright?"
"Peggy! Schmidt's dead."
"What about the plane?"
"That's a little bit tougher to explain"
"Give me your coordinates. I'll find you a safe landing site"
"That's not going to be a safe landing, but I can try to force it down" The moment he said those words a horrible feeling poured into my heart.
"I'll get Howard on the line. He'll know what to do"
"There's not enough time. This things moving too fast and it's heading for New York"
"I gotta put her in the water"
"Please, don't do this. We have time. We can work it out." By now I had started crying. I couldn't lose the love of my life. My Steve.
"Right now I'm in the middle of nowhere. If I wait any longer a lot of people are gonna die. Peggy, this is my choice."
I hear a silence then Steve's voice again.
"Peggy?"
"I'm here" I didn't ever want to leave.
"I'm gonna need a rain check on that dance"
I just smile. There was the Steve I know and love.
"Alright, a week. Next Saturday at the Stork Club"
"You got it."
"Eight o clock. On the dot. Don't you dare be late! Understood?"
"You know, I still don't know how to dance."
"I'll show you how. Just be there."
"You'll have the band play something slow. I'd hate to step on your....." The line suddenly went dead.
"Steve? Steve? Steve?" I started panicking. The line had gone dead and he hadn't responded. I lay my head down and started crying. Steve. My Steve Rogers wasn't coming back. I didn't realize that I hadn't stop crying when Howard came over and tapped me on the shoulder.
"Hey. Let's get you back home." I didn't argue. I was lost without my Steve and Howard was about the closest person to me. He would know what I was going through.

[1 year later]
-
"PEGGY! PEGGY!" I put down the file I was working on and turned my chair to see none other than Howard Stark running down the hallway. He looked like a mess. His hair was all over the place, the pocket in his pants were turned inside out, and I'm pretty sure he was wearing his shirt backwards. What has he been doing these days?

"Peggy," Howard yelled panting a little from all the running. "I found it. I got it to work." Now I was confused.

"What did you get to work?" I wondered.
"Remember when we fished the Tesseract out of the ocean?" Sure did. It was a couple weeks after Steve had crashed.

"Uh yeah,"

"Well some of my scientists and I were studying it when we realized the it can probably travel through time and space. Well anyways, we've been working on the machine and we finally got it to work," Howard explained. "Would you like to go through it?"
"Wait. Is this one of your machine where your all like it works and your only test subject is a hat?" I asked. I never really doubted Howard's work, I was just concerned about the safety of going through it,

"I will have you know that the test subject was a guinea pig and it worked."

"Well I suppose," I began

"Wonderful. Meet me in my lab at 4 this afternoon."
-
Right on the dot at 4, I entered Howard's lab. I looked around trying to find the mysterious time machine. A million thoughts were swirling in my head. With this time machine, I could see Steve but I didn't want to re-live it all. Maybe I should just hop to some time in the future and do a bit of research. Ugh, where was Howard. At 4:10 Howard finally came 10 minutes late.

"You ready to travel through time?" Howard asked.

"I was ready 10 minutes ago when you told me to meet you," I replied. Howard laughed,
"Sorry but here we go,"

"I'm sorry where? I don't see the time machine lying around anywhere," I stated. Howard just laughed. I really didn't see what was so funny.
"Jarvis?" Howard called. Right that minute a man appeared next to Howard.

"Open the secret lab please," a secret lab? Didn't Howard already have millions of labs all over the country? A loud thud disturbed my thoughts as I looked up to see one of his lab walls was splitting in half opening into another room. Honestly how many passageways did he have? I followed Howard into the 'secret lab' and once the doors closed the lights went on in the center of the room. I suppose the contraption was a time machine. I mean it was a bit different then what they looked like in movies but it was recognizable. The metal doors to the machine opened and Howard beckoned me inside.

"Alright Miss carter, what year do you want to go to?" He asked.

I realized I hadn't actually thought of a specific time. Maybe 2015. I liked the number.
"2015," I replied. Before I could focus on what was happening the metal doors to the contraption started closing and howard was punching away at a computer screen. I saw the number 2015 light up and suddenly a bright light whisked me away.

I stood up and looked around. Well this was definitely not the 1940's.
